Preemies

I hate this...

DS has reflux so bad! He just can't seem to get comfortable! There are only some times throughout the day where he is just fine. His reflux really bothers him in the evenings. I brought him to the pedi today and they've also diagnosed him as being colicky. But I don't think colic is for no reason...I definitely think it has to do with digestion issues. He is on Zantac, mylanta and we're trying the nutramigen formula to fortify with rather than AR. I just don't know...it is so hard roses him in pain. I asked about the Colief I read about, but the nurse practitioner we saw hasn't heard of it and said she would look into it. I really hope he grows out of this reflux sooner than later!

  • We dealt with this for a while too. It was horrible. I used to pump BM and fortify with Neosure then switched to Similac Sensitive. Nothing helped. Eventually she stopped eating. It was a struggle to get 14 ounces in her a day at most. She was on Prilosec, Axid and Erythromycin for DGE. She would scream when I tried to feed her. She projectile vomited straight across the room too. Finally, We went to the GI and he thought maybe she was getting an oral aversion to all the meds. He wanted to wean her off the meds and he told me to give her Similac Alimentum for a week and pump and freeze the breast milk. Literally, the next day she started eating SO much better. We still give her Prevacid (he changed that too so that could have helped). Now she is eating around 30 ounces a day. She LOVES to eat now and she hasn't vomited since starting it...

I really wanted her to have BM so bad but unfortunately, it wasn't best for her. So all along what we thought was horrible reflux was actually a protein allergy with mild reflux.

It's worth giving it a shot to see if your LO feels better. It's kind of expensive but I was at the point I would pay anything for her to feel better. She's such a happy baby now and so am I. :)

  • Ah, I feel your pain.  We are going through this right now...times 2.  It is awful.  When we first brought the twins home they were having lots of bradys while eating and feeding time was awful.  Things were just starting to look up as they were beginning to grow out of the bradys when the reflux showed its ugly face.  We are thickening with oatmeal (which has been a total mess), they are taking prevacid and maalox, and we are using nutramigen formula (we do 1/2 breastmilk, 1/2 formula) with our girl because of her cow's protein allergy.  Still, giving them their bottles is a nightmare for everyone...especially the kids.  It's heartbreaking to see them in pain.  It seems the Prevacid is working a little bit.  We were told it takes at least 2 weeks to see a difference and we are only 1 week in.  I would love for it to work well enough that we can eliminate the oatmeal cereal in their bottles.  I don't think the kids like the consistency and it's creating other digestive issues.
