Questions about Maggie

the name Maggie is really growing on me, but...

1) Our last name rhymes with Bigger, Is Maggie Bigger, too many "Gs"?

2) Does Maggie need to have a formal name, or is it a nn that stands alone in its own right? I feel like maybe it needs a formal name, but I'm not a huge fan of any of the options. I do love Marigold, but not sure if I could ever actually be brave enough to use it.

Re: Questions about Maggie

  • I think Marigold is ADORABLE, love Maggie as a nn. Not a fan of Margaret. I do like Magdalena though. Maggie is not formal enough to stand alone imo.
  • I don't think it's too many "g"s.  They don't rhyme or anything, so I don't think it's a big deal.

I think you definitely need a formal name for it.

  • I don't think there's too many Gs.

I do think Maggie needs a formal name. How about Magnolia? I've seen this name mentioned around a few places and would love to hear it on a real person! Marigold is beautiful too. I would definitely use it, especially since she will probably be going by Maggie anyway.

  • I do think that sounds like too many "G's" together and don't care for that.  And although I think Maggie is a darling name, I also know waaaaay too many dogs named Maggie.  If you go with it though, def. use it as a nickname for a longer name.
  • I love Maggie!  It's on the top of our list.  I would definitely use a longer name, though.  Other than the floral suggestions, you've got Margaret (which is a beautiful name in and of itself) and its variations: Margarita, Marguerite, Margo(t/eaux), Margaretta, Marjorie.

  • I love the name Maggie.  I personally don't think you need a longer name if you don't want one.  But if you feel it needs a more formal name, I like Margaret the best.

  • 1) I think you will be good on G's.

    2) I like it as a nn, but not stand alone. The only Maggies I've ever known were actually Margaret (which is a name I love). I also think Magdalena and Margeaux are kind of cool, but dislike Magnolia.

  • Nah, I don't think it's too many Gs

I don't think you need a more formal name if you're not happy with any options. My friend just named her daughter Maggie (just Maggie), and it's great. Molly doesn't have a formal name, and they are kind of similar sounding, to me anyway. However, if you're worried about the too many Gs thing, having a more formal name might be away to help with that. Marigold is lovely!

  • Marigold is nice. I think a formal name is definitely needed - remember that some day she will be sending out resumes & going on job interviews - a formal name is needed for more serious occasions like that.

  • I think Maggie is a stand alone name.. I like Magnolia better than Marigold  but I also personally wouldn't like the double G's flow...
  • I have a cousin who's full first name is Maggie. I don't know if her mother is a big Rod Stewart fan or what, but Maggie's middle name is May. Also, I think that Marigold is such a sweet little name, and if she's a sassy teen, she'll have the option of going by Goldie. (Though perhaps that's forewarning nickname info for you. . .)
  • I think Maggie is okay as a nickname. I like Margaret, Magdalena, or Marigold as formal name suggestions. It does look a bit strange with a double-G last name, but I don't think it sounds strange. I'm very visual when it comes to names so this bothers me more than some people who go more by how a name sounds.

  • As a "Margaret" I think Maggie is a perfect stand alone name.  All my life I have been refered to as Maggie and people are surprised when they find out that my name is actually Margaret.

  • I don't think there are too many Gs, and I love the name Maggie.  But I do prefer it as a nickname for Margaret.
