embarrassing Q re PT & girls

OK, here goes, try not to laugh too hard ;).  I was not taught to wipe front to back growing up after peeing (#2, yes of course!), so this is not something that is really comfortable for me...I try to do it b/c I know I should but I think reaching around from back is really awkward and trying to do it from the front just seems weird & kind of difficult...but anyway, it's hard to break a habit after many years of doing it that way but I try LOL.

So when teaching a 2 yr old to do this, as we start PTing, I'm not sure if it is realistic to expect her to be able to reach all the way around to try to get to the front or what the best way to approach this is? Any advice? Am I the only one out there who has had this experience? Seems like something you never really talk about with your girlfriends or something...

  • I have her lean back just a little bit, and then start the tissue in the front and push down, ending with dropping it in the toilet.  No reaching around necessary.

ETA - I still wipe for her when she poops.

  • I agree. I just let DD wipe whatever way she wants when she goes pee. I always rewipe her from front to back and I always wipe her when she goes #2. I am just concentrating on getting her to go in the potty. I will push the wiping issue when she is older and understands.

This is how my DD does it too. It seems to work well. I wipe her when she poops, eventually she'll get it but I want to make sure I get it all so she doesn't get an infection or anything. Same thing goes with brushing her teeth. I let her try but ultimately I end up doing it. At least until she's old enough to really understand.

This is what we do, too.  But DD#2 is so tiny that she can't really balance on the seat with one hand while wiping so she's more of a dab, dab-stand-hop off the stool- push front to back and then put it in.

  • For pee she just pats while she counts to 5; and for poop she reaches around herself, I normally wipe her when she poops though.

  • For pee, we taught her the push from front to back then drop method.  For poop, she can reach around and wipe (still front to back).  Then sometimes, she'll get off the potty after the first round of wiping and do it again standing up - very efficient :)  I usually do a double check, but does a good job 90% of the time.

  • I let my SD try to wipe because she thinks its "fun" but I have her taught to bend and touch her toes to make it easier for me to clean her up afterwards...She's really young so the whole wiping thouroughly is kind of wasted on her at this point-it's habit for her to wipe but I do the actual cleaning lol.

  • This maybe TMI, but here it goes...

I never reach around back to wipe. It's awkward and when I tried it I felt I was wiping the poop up to my back...I always wipe from front to back with pee.  With poop, I still go through the front, but when wiping I don't bring any poop forward towards the vagina.  IDK, I don't ever remember ever being taught how to properly wipe either...it's just how I've always done it.
