preemie Vs newborn

I am having an induced labor in 3 weeks, will be ( 37 weeks along ). I know this is full term but LO right now is only 3.6lbs. I am estimating her in the 5lb range when shes born. Should I get some preemie clothes too??? Or will she be fine in newborn??

For me personally, I wouldn't waste the money on preemie sized clothes.  I might look at Once Upon A Child or another second hand baby store in your area to see if they had a couple preemie items.  They grow so quickly.  Even my son blew through the newborn sizes (but he spent about five months in 0-3 month).

For us the bigger issue has been how long our little guy is. He was 16 inches when he was born and the Carter's preemie size is only for up to 17 inches. In general the Carters and Gerber stuff runs small. Our little guy fits into their newborn size now at almost 5lbs with some room to grow.

I would just get newborn. My baby was 6 lbs when we took him home from the hospital. He was too long for preemie clothes (17 3/4 in long) so we had him in newborns. Good luck!

We took DD home in NB clothes and she was 5# 1oz when she was discharged.  Gerber clothes run REALLY small, so get some NB onesies and sleepers and see how those do.  Carters always ran true to the weight it said on the labels (still does!) and Gerber was reeeeally off.

Go for NB - my guy was born at 3+lbs, but he was into NB when we left NICU. He was 5+ lbs. He was in NB FOREVER!

Gerber runs really small like PP's have said, but I'm not a fan of their stuff anyway.

Carter's on the other hand fits my LO like a glove! I find it long and lean (he was 17.5 in at birth). He's still in 3 mo Carter's.

I'm the odd duck, my LO was in preemie clothes until12 weeks (so about 8 weeks total).   That said, he CAME HOME at 4lbs.  So, if he comes home really tiny you might need some.

Like most of the other posters said, I would go straight to newborn sizes.  Our friends bought us a TON of preemie stuff and a lot of it went unworn. (They took the tags off most of the clothes and washed them in Dreft for us too so we wouldn't have to.  We couldn't even take them back and get bigger sizes.  I think we're going to donate our collection to the hospital even though a nurse there told us to save the clothes in case we have another preemie one day----as if I would plan for this to happen again. :-( ) Anyway, our girl is the smaller of the two and was just over 4 lb. when we brought her home.  She wore preemie clothes for a few weeks.  My son on the other hand, was just over 5 lb. and is long (I think he was 18 inches when we brought him home).  Preemie sized clothes(we had mostly Carter's stuff) didn't fit him at all---too short.  Either way, the twins have only been home for a little over a month and both are wearing newborn sized clothes.  My son even fits into some 0-3 stuff already.  They grow fast!
