Rib pain anyone?

Any ideas what you can do to make it not hurt?  The top rib on my right side hurts. I know that rubbing it isn't doing anything to help but I don't know what else to try.  A friend told me it's going to hurt like this until I deliver??!!

Re: Rib pain anyone?

  • YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been having rib pain on my right side since early in pregnancy! Every  preggo or mom I have told about this pain ....thinks I am nuts. My Dr said it is my organs shifting! That crap hurts!

  • Oooohhh  I posted about this a few days ago and no one responded.  I think I must have worded it wrong, but YES-- right side chest near ribs and also my upper back on the same side.  I think it has something to do with air because burping makes it feel a little better.  It seems to be worse after I eat too?  Pushing on it sometimes helps too, though?  I was going to ask at my doc next week.  I read something about indigestion, but tums don't really seem to help.

Oh no-- it is going to hurt until I deliver?!  4 more months of this??!  OUCH!!

Please, please help us SAIF Goddesses!!

  • Geesh yes. I have a short torso and it wasn't long before my uterus and everything else was pushing my ribs out, not to mention little feet in there. An ice pack was the only think I found that worked. That and making a conscious effort not to lean forward to reach my keyboard. (That's hard once you get ginourmous though.)

  • Trinny.. very interesting you say it hurts more after eating.  I never put that together but that's true for me!!  And it hurts on my back in the same place you describe!!

Let's hope someone on here has a secret trick for this.  (It does make me feel better that I'm not alone!)

  • I noticed my pain after sitting for a long period of time - Anyone else? My Dr did say, an ice pack may help

  • I know what you mean about not being alone!  I am so glad you and Beas are in pain too!  LOL!

Ice, huh?  I'll give it a go-- it can hurt pretty bad sometimes!

  • I don't have it constantly but I do get sharp pains every now and again.. not fun!  Just another one of the joys of being pregnant I guess!

  • lol Trinny! At least we know we are not alone :)
  • I hate to say it, but I don't know if there is much you can do. I had it towards the end of my first pregnancy b/c Lilly was huge and there was no more room for her. I've heard some women get broken ribs from pregnancy. Scary! My sister had the WORST rib pain when she was pregnant. You would never ever see her when she wasn't holding her rib and rubbing it, endlessly. I felt so bad for her. I hope things shift around and the pressure is relieved. It sounds painful, hon.
  • I just read some more of the responses and I agree....after I eat, the ribs in my upper back kill! I posted about that a few days ago. Not comfortable.
  • OMG, yes!  I had terrible rib pain starting at 33 weeks and it didn't end until delivery, but it did get better once the baby started to drop.
  • Ugh, yes.  I am hoping it will get better once the baby drops.  The only thing I've found that helps is making sure I am not slouching at all -- that seems to make it worse.  Sitting on the exercise ball helps a little -- it keeps my spine straight.
