RP: How do you replace eggs in a DC's diet?

I'm posting this a second time, just in case there's someone hanging around the Nest now who knows .... B is allergic to eggs. Not just intolerant, but allergic. I want to give her a healthy source of protein to replace what's being lost from her diet. Any suggestions? If you don't know, maybe you could point me to a reliable source? Eggs are huge in our house - I don't want B's diet to be any less healthy than F's.

  • I think whole foods sells an egg replacer, similar to egg beaters but w/o eggs in it.
  • You gotta be careful w/ the replacements because often they are made with eggs.  I give Tess protein in the form of cheese & beans since she won't really eat meat much.  She also drinks milk.  The hardest part for us was the baked goods, which we now allow even though we aren't really supposed to--LOL!...there are powdered substitues, etc sold--Look on-line at the food allergy websites, they have lists.

  • DD is allergic to eggs as well.  For cooking or baking purposes, the egg replacer works great (and lasts a long time).  As far as the nutrional value of eggs, we didn't worry too much about it. We just made sure that she ate a variety of healthy foods.

  • Soy products.  Many of the meat substitutes are pretty good.  Stay away from the Morningstar brand--they usually have egg in them.  The Boca brand is better about being egg-free.

Depending on the seriousness of your daughter's allergy, you might need to reduce the egg usage in your household for everyone, though.  I can't have eggs in my home at all.  I can't even sit at a table with someone eating eggs without feeling ill.
