Cloth Diapering

XP - Supplementing with Formula = PB Poop????

Last week I started supplementing with one 4oz bottle of formula a day, and DS has been having PB-like poop for the last 2 days.  I thought this was only supposed ot happen when you start introducing solids?  I cloth diaper, so this could be an issue, and I don't think I should need to use liners already...thoughts?

Re: XP - Supplementing with Formula = PB Poop????

  • I did not ever put the formula poop in the washer.  I very very strongly recommend giving it a very thorough swish or spray.  Here's the thing - LO's bodies do not use formula as efficiently as BM, so there is a lot more that physically comes out in the poop department as waste.  Not to mention that it is a completely different texture.  There are women who claim they throw it all in the wash.  Having seen the difference in sheer poop volume once DS was on formula I cannot IMAGINE doing so.

Also - I wouldn't do liners just because of the horror stories I have read on here about them messing up your main sewage line.

  • I had to supplement due to supply issues. I rinsed every diaper to prevent staining just because I'm picky like that. ;-)   I don't remember PB poop until solids, though.  That's when I started using the fleece liners to keep the diapers in better shape.

  • DS was EBF, then we had to start supplementing w/formula and are now EFF.  I noticed a definite change in the poop.  For us, we just evaluate it based on the poop.  His were more PB-y in the beginning and he still has the occasional one that's more solid.  Most of his returned to being pretty liquidy though.  If it's a PB poo or anything remotely solid, we clean it out pre-laundry.  This method has worked for us. Like PP said, I'd be leery of liners or would at least pitch them if you use them (don't flush); I've heard too many horror stories of clogged sewer lines to ever consider flushing them.
