I live in town (little 5 area) and my husband, daughter, and I want to go to a pumpkin patch this afternoon. Do y'all have any recommendations for ones not too far?
The only real pumpkin patch we've ever done is Berry Patch Farms in Woodstock. It's ok. There's a "petting zoo" where you mostly just look at the animals behind the fence. You take a hay ride out to the pumpkin patch, and they tractor takes you back after you choose a pumpkin. Great photo ops, but not all that entertaining for little ones. FWIW, we never actually get a big pumpkin at a patch because they are SO expensive. We did it one time, and ended up with an almost $30 pumpkin! We get a small one for E and get a big pumpkin later on.
Berry Patch is Great, although maybe a bit far from you. Last year (our 3rd year going) they had horseback riding and face painting as well as the hayride and photo ops. It was so much fun! I'm hoping when we go this year, it will be the same thing. Its $2 for parking on the weekends though. But we don't ever buy anything (except the horseback riding was $5, I think), we just go for the photo ops.
It's probably too late for you, but we just went to Yule Farms today and had an awesome time. It is not free, but it wasn't crowded and there is a hayride (sans hay - yay, b/c I am allergic), and a big bouncy pillow and some other bouncy things, as well as a little farm zoo type thing (not actually a petting zoo - more like a looking zoo).
I just realized your LO is probably too little to enjoy the things that made it so much fun for my DD today - but bookmark this one for next year - it was great!
I'm mostly interested in taking some good pictures so I'm after a good pumpkin patch. We went to Cagel's Dairy last year. The pumpkin patch was a bit dissapointing. Pretty small actually.
I'm looking on this website hoping to find some other options:
We went to Yule Farms on Saturday and it was great for my kids-good photo ops and then nice things for the kids to do-it's expensive I think $8 admission but it was fun and ok for once a year.
