Re: What should I pack for the hospital?

  • The Bump has a list: https://pregnant.thebump.com/pregnancy/pregnancy-tools/articles/checklist-packing-a-hospital-bag.aspx

For a c-section, definitely have some comfy pants that will hit you ABOVE your incision, both to wear in the hospital (if you don't want to wear their gowns) and to wear home. A dress or gown would work, too. You're not going to want any pressure on your incision.

Other than that, I've seen others suggest bringing a Boppy if you have one - BFing in cradle hold is a bit uncomfortable after a c-section because of putting weight on your stomach/inciscion.

  • I brought nursing tanks, etc and never wore them. The gown was just easier learning how to breastfeed the baby.

    Things I used/brought:

Robe, slipper socks (i hate the hospital ones), toothpaste, toothbrush, hair stuff (ties, shampoo, cond), soap, contact lense stuff, cell phone and cords, camera, toilet paper ( i was in L&D a week before delivery and the tp was like sand paper). Breast pump" i am glad I brought mine, because I had to use it in the hospital. If you use the hospitals it is another charge.

Discharge day: comfy pants with high waist ( i had these black comfy one from old navy maternity) and a nursing tank and sweatshirt.  Buy some big old granny panties too, you will not want anything touching the incision.

For baby: outfit, blanket, and I wish I had had these: cushion covers for the car seat straps. LO will be so little and the car seat straps are not comfy. Buy ahead of time. I got a pair of black ones from babies r us.

Do not forget stuff for dad.

And have plenty of acetaminophen and ibuprofen at home, you will need it!

  • The only "extra" things I added to my list were a nightgown(s), granny panties, a blanket for baby, nursing pillow, and nipple cream.

  • I didn't know I was going to have a c-section, but here's what I used-

    comfy socks

    gauchos

    hoodie

maxi dress (had my husband go home to bring me mine and I was so thankful for that)

    flip flops

    boppy

    Nursing bra

various toiletries- travel sized shampoo, conditioner, dove soap, deodorant, lotion, toothbrush/paste, breast pads, hair ties, chapstick, and I brought my makeup to make me feel human.

    Laptop/charger

    Phone/Charger

I used the hospital pads and mesh undies.

And, of course, clothes for the baby. Oh, and our hospital doesn't give pacifiers, so I was really happy I packed some. Helped a ton.
