i have to ask one more time...

where did your kiddos sleep for the first few months?

i think i want them in our room. i think we are going to not cobed at night, but let them cobed during the day for naps. because of all the time in the nicu we are very nervous parents!

should i buy 2 graco mini-pack n plays? 2 bassinets? what's best?

thanks! i'm really struggling with this.

Re: i have to ask one more time...

  • We had one PNP that they both slept in next to my side of the bed. They slept in the bassinet part until they reached 15lbs combined. Then we moved them to the bottom part for awhile. At around 5 weeks they went into their crib in their room across the house. At 2 months they slept through the night and have been going strong ever since!
  • Right now our girls are both in the same original arm's reach cosleeper.  It is working well so far.

  • Ours are still in our room at 4.5 months old.  We only have a 2 bedroom house, though, so I don't want them waking up my 3 year old.  If I had another bedroom,t hey'd be in their own room by now.  I will cobed them until I am not swaddling them anymore (which will be when they start rolling in the swaddle).
  • Ours shared a crib in their nursery starting the first week they were home.

In hindsight, I would have really like to get an arm's reach co-sleeper and used that for awhile. I liked having them in the nursery, because when they slept in our room, I'd jump up for every little noise.  However, I ended up bringing them into our bed so often (to get some rest), that I wished I'd gotten the cosleeper, since it's safer.

  • I think I mentioned this before but we thought we'd want them in our room but after 2 days and NO sleep, we put them in the nursery right next door (had it been another floor ?).  Anyway, I'd suggest using a pnp until you know for sure you want them in the room.  Our napped in the pnp until 2 mos...
  • We tried the PNP at first, but they hated it.  The only place they'd sleep at first was in their carseat (the infant carriers) in our room.  They did that for about 1month (after they came home from NICU) then we put them into their cribs (they shared one at first until about 4 1/2 -5 months old when Ben was getting too big then we put them into their own crib
  • Ours are in our room, we were hoping to use the cosleeper, we have the original one.  The problem is that they both spit up a little while lying down flat so we have to have them sitting up a bit to sleep.  The easiest thing is to have them sleep in their carseats so that's what we've been doing.  I'm a little disappointed that they're not sleeping in the cosleeper next to us like we planned but it's the only option at this point.

  • My guys shared a pack n play in our room until they were 6 months, then we moved them to their crib in their own room.  They napped in their own cribs at daycare so they had no issue moving to the cribs.  We just kept them in our room until we were ready.
  • Hi Loree-

My guys slept in the arm's reach co-sleeper for the first four-ish months.  I loved that thing!  During the day, they basically slept in their bouncy seats or their cribs (we had them in one crib until about 4 months too).

If you want to buy two of something, I'd suggest getting two pnps..you will need two later when you travel and they are too big to fit in one (I learned that lesson the hard way!).

Hang in there, those girls are absolutely beautiful!

  • We got the twin PNP as a shower gift, and my boys slept together in one half of the bassinett in our room for the first week.  Since we and they were getting almost no sleep like that (we jumped at every little noise they made) we moved them to their crib in the nursery.  They slept together in the crib until 5 months.  We then used the PNP for occasional naps.
  • Our boys slept in the same PNP (Chicco Playard) in the bassinet part in our room for the first 5 weeks.  Then we moved them to their cribs and they slept together in the same one until about 4 1/2 months old.  Now they are in their own crib.
  • We just moved our into their room this last weekend.

Here is my take on it.  I know you are nervous about them sharing a space, but really, with a PNP or especially the arms reach co-sleeper, they can be so far apart from each other they are not even close to touching.  You could put them on opposite sides of the PNP or sleeper and it would be like they were in separate bassinets.  Here is a pic of my girls in the co-sleeper who were 3 months old at the time so you can imagine them a whole lot small when they first started out.  We bought a wedge to put under them so they could be inclined slightly due to spit up.

If you are dead set against it, I would buy 2 cheap bassinets.  They will feel more secure in that little space, IMO.

Good Luck, it is so hard to know what to do sometimes.  I hope I helped.

  • For the first 2 1/2 months ours slept together in a PNP in our room.  It had a bassinet.
