Parenting after a Loss

So seriously, you'd think by now people would know...

Funny story yesterday...

I went to the store with my girlfriend and her daughter, who is two months older than Ryleigh. She had to go over to the pharmacy to pick up a prescription, so I went over there with her, Ryleigh in my cart, her daughter in hers. My friend went over first, and there were a couple of older ladies over there who were oooing and ahhing over how cute my friends daughter was. (I'll admit, she's a cutie!) Anyway, I get over there with Ryleigh, and there still talking to my friend and commenting on a cute little girl, and then they look over at my daughter and say, "Oh and look, a cute little BOY too!" I kind of looked at the lady and was thinking, "Really, REALLY, you THINK SHE'S A BOY?! SHE'S WEARING PINK FOR CRIPES SAKE, AND HER EARS ARE PIERCED!" They proceeded to walk off and all I could do was shake my head. My friend kind of looked at me with a crooked grin on her face. She'd heard the whole thing of course.

She then tells me a great comeback, a little too late darling, needed it like two minutes ago....

*Sigh* Will the old ladies EVER get it?!

ETA: Forget my lack of correct grammar and spelling, obviously not thinking!

See, now you'd think that since it was such a great comeback, I'd remember it, but at this moment, no I don't. Awful....

  • If it makes you feel any better, it happened to me with both my girls. Usually older people. Also my friend has a blonde haired, blue eyed little boy. Actually he is pre-teen now, but when he was little EVERYONE thought he was a little girl.

  • Sh!t girl!  We had dd dressed in a pink onsie with pink glittery letters on it that said in all caps I AM NOT A BOY with a lil pink bow in her hair and the older ladies STILL told us how cute HE was.  I laughed it off but in my head was thinking "c'mon!!"
