I think its horrible. Its like Chad with a funny speech impairment. That child will be mocked for years.
Not necessarily. My girlfriend's husband's name is Shad. He has never been teased over his name. I don't care for it myself, but I don't think it's horrible. It's also a fairly common name among cowboy/rancher/farmer families -- hardest working people in America.
It kind of feels like it should be short for something (Shadrach? like the guy who got thrown into the furnace?)
ETA: I don't hate the name. I think it's far from terrible. Could even grow on me quite a bit.

I agree. An ex-bf of mine is Rashad and I'd call him Shad, but it sounds like this would be pronounced differently. Shadrach is awesome .
Makes me think of the Bible story "Three Men in a Firey Furnace". Their names were Shadrach, Meschach, & Abednigo. (I probably butchered those spellings.)

Sleep with Jesus sweet baby.

So THAT'S where the Beastie Boys got those names from.

My best friend in high school's name was Rashad, and we called him Shad. But I'm assuming your friend's son's name is pronounced differently.
I thought of Shadrach as well, but I don't like the name.

Same. More specifically, I think of the revolting dish, Shad Roe.
OP: What about Thad (for Thaddeus)?

I'm sorry and this is inappropriate but all I can think of is Shat. Like past tense shiit.
I vote no.

My Married Bio
So THAT'S where the Beastie Boys got those names from.
My husband uses a fish bait that is called Shad, and it stinks horribly. That is all I can think about when I say the name!
I don't like it at all! Reminds me of Shat.
