Is this normal? follow-up to "What do you think"

To follow-up to my "what do you think" post, I called my doctor's office to find out what my first visit would entail. 

 They said that they won't do any type of ultrasound.  My first one will be between 11-13 weeks if I decide to do genetic testing.  If not, then it won't be till 18-20 weeks. 

Is it normal not to have one (not even the "dildo cam") at my first appointment in which I will be 8 weeks?

Very normal not to have one. In fact, most early u/s are for those women who either don't know their LMP, or for those women who have medical issues like multiple mc's, fertility problems, etc...

it is normal.  an u/s at this point would be strictly for dating and some ob's dont do it....also some insurances will only pay for 1

it could be your insurance or just OB preference....it is normal though

Thanks Girls!  It's good to know.  Apparently it's just my office's practice and not my insurance.

Yup! I was only supposed to have 1 with my first but ended up with a second due to him not cooperating.

Yes, a lot of doctors won't give you an u/s early.  It's no big deal.  The wait will suck, but when you have the u/s between 11-13 weeks your baby will look like a baby.

Mine is between 11 & 14 weeks this time.. I had a 5.5 week last time and then not again until 20 weeks. The first was a blob and the 2nd, baby was too big to see the "whole" picture.. I am excited for a u/s in the window I'll get one in.

Completely depends on your doctor. My first appt is on the 26th and I will be 8 weeks. It routine for my doctor to do an u/s then.
