Adoption

New Here! -- Intro

Hello All!

I've been lurking here for a month or so and thought I should finally introduce myself. My husband & I have recently decided to initiate the foster process and possibly adoption process. My husband & I have been married for a year and a half and have always known we would foster/adopt someday. Does anyone have any experience with the foster system in North Dakota? I have learned so much already from reading your posts and thought I'd finally step in and introduce myself! I am looking forward to getting to know all of you!

  • Welcome and Good Luck!

My husband and I are working with an agency that does foster care, adoption from foster care, and domestic infant adoption.  We are almost finished with the classes and paperwork to be approved for infant adoption or adoption from foster care.

  • Welcome! We are in ND, but we are going through Lutheran Social Services/The Village - Adoption Option.  I have a friend though that does Foster Care.  Depending on where you are at in ND you just call directly to the foster care contact in the county you are in.  If you are in Cass County I have the contact information for you, just let me know!

One thing about ND that sucks is that the adoption and foster care are on 2 separate, but parallel sets of laws.  For example, once we are registered/completed with all of our adoption classes/background checks etc, we can not use that to do foster care.  You have to go through the whole process separately for foster care.  The nice thing about foster care though, is that they help you get through all of that at no cost to you.  Also, the required classes you have to take are available on the internet or a DVD now, so you don't have to take time off of work to go attend a 2 day class like we did....

Good luck and if you need anything just "page" me on here! (to "page" some one, just right a post with their name in the subject line)

  • Hello & Welcome.

My DH and I were approved for foster/adopt this summer.  We live in VA so I am sure there are plenty of differences.  We've had two respite stays to "get our feet wet" and our agency has shared info about a couple different sibling groups so far.

    Best wishes.

  • Welcome! My hubby and I are also going through the foster process. The ladies here are so helpful.

     Good luck!
