diaper rash

In all my DS's years, I think he had diaper rash for a total of 3 days. DD on the other hand has had it for almost a week. I've been using Butt Paste on her, or Desitin. I switched from Swaddlers to Pampers Swaddlers Sensitive. I use Huggies Natural wipes.

How long do I let the rash continue before calling the ped about it? I'm not sure what is normal. Oh, and she's BF if that makes a difference.

Re: diaper rash

  • We've been dealing with this this week, here's what we've done:

While it's still flared up, I started a new diaper changing routine. Instead of washing his bottom, I've been squirting him off with warm water from a spray bottle. If that doesn't get it all, I use a warm wash cloth to gently dab the poop off. If I'm home with him, I let him hang out commando until everything is dry. If that's not an option, or if it's night time, I use my blow dryer on the coolest setting to dry him, or blot dry with a clean fluffy towel (suggestions from my pedi's office!). We've started using Triple Paste on his bottom with every diaper change. It's super expensive, but has already worked wonders. It's been 48 hours and it's almost totally cleared up.

My long term plan to prevent relapse is switching to the Pampers sensitive diapers and Huggies Natural wipes (the pedi's office thought it was caused by sensitive skin added to the alcohol in the wipes & the Dry Max diapers we were using before).

Like OP said though, I'd call if it weren't cleared up in a week or so just to make sure.  HTH & GL!

ETA: Oh, and obviously, make sure you're changing her as soon as she wets/dirties a diaper, even if it means waking her up at night! GL! :)

  • My daughter had a diaper rash for over a week that was raw in a couple of spots. We had tried Desitin and Boudreaux's Butt Paste and they didn't do anything. The pedi suggested Triple Paste and it was awesome! It was the only butt paste that cleared up the rash.

  • So the diaper rash doesn't look as bad today...so I am totally blaming it on the regular Pampers Swaddlers. Now that we've been using Sensitive I think it's helping. I have a sample of Triple Paste, I'll have to try that to see if it can get rid of it completely. Thanks ladies!
