I never took them with DD, but this time the NP prescribed them at my first appointment. I have been taking regular prenatals, but not with DHA. I know DHA has to do with brain development, but does anyone know specifically what it does and when you need to take it?
The vitamins are much more expensive, and a friend told me her doctor said she didn't even need it til 28 weeks. But then, I'm also wondering if I should be giving DD the eggs and yogurt with DHA. Thoughts?
Re: XP: Prenatal vitamins with DHA?
Rather than taking the Rx version which has DHA in it, you can always just take a regular PNV and then buy the Expecta DHA supplement (from a non-fish source, so no mercury risk). I found it to be far cheaper (each box has a $2 coupon for the next one, so it's about $10/month, and my PNV bottles from WalMart last me about 4 months at $15 a bottle).
I don't know about the supplementing for your DD, but I started taking the DHA supplements when I found out I was pg. Continue taking it while BFing. GL.
