Do any of you have issues with this? I get sick a lot of times when I brush my teeth. I'm wondering if maybe a new flavor toothpaste would help. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I switched from mint to cinnamon because mint was making me gag from the smell. I still gag sometimes so I can't brush as long as I would like to. So I just try to brush more times throughout the day to make up for it. But cinnamon has really helped. I can't do mouthwash anymore but oh well I guess.

I only have a short window of time where I can brush my teeth before I start gagging. So I do multiple, short brushes instead. (and I can't even attempt to brush my tongue right now.)
One of the side effects of having a cold while pregnant is it seems to have heightened my gag reflex. I had no problems brushing my teeth until yesterday. Today I had to take a break in the middle.

Brushing your teeth more times during a day is better than twice a day. It can cause tooth erosion and can strip your teeth of minerals that is put on by saliva. Try to stick to twice a day. A childs toothpaste would generally be fine. It has more calcium and definitely no whitening agent but milder flavour could help.
Happy Brushing.
P.s.- I used to work in a dental surgery hence the info
It's just a pregnancy woe. Hormones make the gag reflux strong. I use an electric sonicare and I get in and out of there as quickly as I can. Brushing my tongue is what does me in if I make it through brushing without gagging.
I haven't had too much of an issue with brushing my teeth but flossing has been a disaster. I know they say to really take care of your gums especially while pregnant to avoid 'pregnancy gingivitis' but honestly, I am sick to my stomach every time I try! I will wait a couple weeks to try again and hope I can do it before the end of the pregnancy!

Thank you so much for everyone's thoughts and advice. I will try cinnamon toothpaste. I'm glad I'm not the only one going thru this. Oh the joys! I have been trying to brush my tongue so I will lay off that for awhile as well. And I definitely have not been brushing my teeth as long as I normally do, pre-pregnancy.

Definitely can't even think about brushing my tongue, teeth seem to be okay though. For my tongue, I use a scraper, otherwise I have a gross nasty feeling that makes the nausea worse. If you get one, don't get the ones that have a long handle from DenTek, they'll still trigger the gagging. I've had good luck with one like this:
Re: Brushing your teeth
I am also going to switch to something cinnamon flavored. Just the thought of mint is enough to turn my stomach these days....

OMG I thought I was the only weirdo having this issue. I am so glad it's not just me!
Last night it happened and I was like WTF! It's happened a couple of times in the past month.

I am the same way. I can brush my teeth, but forget about brushing my tongue. I just use mouthwash after every brushing.
