DH and I went home to tell our families this weekend and got some crazy mixed reactions!
My mom, dad, sisters, and brothers-in-law cried (even one of the BIL!!) and then clapped. It was a little weird and uncomfortable for a few seconds. They are all very excited. I told them not to tell anyone else yet b/c I want to wait until after the first appt.
My DH's mom replied with "I had a feeling" and then acted somewhat interested/happy. Later that night she texted DH and told him she was shocked and couldn't sleep so he could call her if he needed to talk. The woman is CRAZY and I don't want to get into all that right now.
My grandmother had a hard time understanding what I was telling her. I asked her what she thought about being a great-grandma and she told me she didn't know anything about it. When I finally got her to understand I'm pregnant she said "Well for God's Sake why didn't somebody tell me!" LOL! I was laughing so hard I could barely talk to her.
DH's sister said "Oh my God, was this planned or a suprise?" She wasn't happy and didn't hide her true feelings. She takes after her mother!!
DH's grandparents didn't really want to talk about it. They said congratulations and told me to be sure to take care of myself. DH's grandmother said to DH "Your poor mother." Not sure what that means...
All in all it was a good weekend. I expected craziness from DH's family, so I was prepared for it. I hope they get their attitudes in check over the next few months.
Re: Update - We told the families (long)
I'm sorry about the way your in-laws acted. I have crummy in-laws so I can relate. They didn't hide their feelings either.
But like you, I was prepared for it, so it didn't shock me.
At least you have a lot of support from your side of the family!! Congrats!
Congrats on coming out, though! I bet it's great!
