April 2012 Moms

MIL...what a response

DH and I called his parents today to tell them about our baby news (they live out of town). After he told them, I asked MIL if she was ready to be a grandma. Her response...."Well, I guess I don't really have a choice, now do I?" She then proceeded to say, "So I take it this must have been a surprise."

WTF?!? First of all, she SHOULD be ready to be a grandparent, she is 64 years old. Secondly, why in the world could this baby not have been planned? DH and I have been married for over a year, and DH is 33 freaking years old! She never ceases to amaze me.

  • UGH, it really irks me when people can't just be happy for you and they have to go and make AMAZING news sound horrible :( I am sorry you had to go through that, It's just not right!

Haha! Love it! You got that right!

I don't understand how anyone can have a negative reaction about a baby. I'm just thankful she lives out of town.

  • I would have been angry if my MIL said that! How rude! And who cares if it is planned or not. It makes no difference.

i wish i could be joking but my dad is the music teacher at a church so he owuld be mad. we had sex, all the time how bad i know but we dont want to wait and he said GREAT OH KAY! and I was really feeling the wets? down there- too embarsed to say- but he acted like man.
  • Ouch! My mother kind of had a similar reaction about becoming a grandmother. Here's hoping it will grow on your MIL, at least just a little bit.

  • I expect a similar reaction from my own mother. For some reason she has to counter every positive experience I have with some sort of "well, just remember the worst case scenario" statement.
  • That's awful! Sorry you had to deal with this!
    due april 10th :))
  • Ugh! What a cow! That is horrible. Hopefully she'll become a more granmotherly. Yah for telling though

  • Sounds like my MIL ~ that was pretty much her reaction with DD. AND now all she wants is more grand babies, she has to filter or tack in letting us know.....2 months after suffering a m/c she had the nerve to ask me when we are planning on giving DD a sibling ~ needless to say, she still has yet to be informed about this pregnancy.

  • That is so rude!!!! i am expecting a similar response from my boyfriends mom. I wish people would just keep negative opinions to themselves.
