Maternity wear at the Thrift Store...

I thought I would see if I could find a pair of maternity pants, and I was so overwhelmed. All of it looks hideous and I'm worried I will be doomed to looking awful once I start growing. Ugh. I haven't tried going anywhere new, so maybe they have things organized better and things might look better?

Re: Maternity wear at the Thrift Store...

  • I feel like the thrift store might be full of older maternity clothes that people have worn through multiple pregnancies, making them worn out and out of style. It would seem overwhelming to sift through all of that to find a few good pieces.

Did you look on your local craigslist for people selling maternity clothes in 'lots' in your size? Or ebay? I noticed a friend was selling her clothes on facebook and ended up buying everything she had for garage sale prices, and it was all gently used and still stylish. GL to you. Retail price for maternity stuff is so outrageous!

I agree with this. It is very hard to find good pieces in thrift stores. Ours rarely ever have ANY maternity. It's harder for me to buy clothes from other people because I'm plus sized, but I can wear XL in "regular" sizes in some brands. It makes it tough to know if what someone has will actually fit.

I am just trying to hold off as long as possible and search for sales and coupons.

  • I have been searching goodwill/thrift stores since I found out I was pregnant. Most of it is horribly ugly & out of style. I went to motherhood maternity today & was amazed at how cute some of the stuff was. You're not doomed to ugly stuff! I'd say watch for sales and check the clearance sections too. Craigslist has a lot of maternity stuff but it's hit or miss as well.

  • See if there are any consignment stores that specifically deal in maternity anywhere near you. I know there are two in my area. They usually carry newer/better stuff. Not as cheap as thrift stores, but still saves a ton of money.

  • I've had tons of luck with consignment stores! Designer names...
  • I went to a few thrift stores too and I found the same things, worn out and out of fashion.  There was a huge congsignment sale in my town this weekend, I did find a black dress that barely looked worn pretty inexpenisve, so check out cosignment sales.  We also have some  upscale repeat boutiques that I plan on hitting too!  I went to Burlington Coat Factory Outlet and they actually had some really good prices on maternity clothes, like jeans and pants for $10
