An update to my CW last week.

Just got my lab results from Kaiser website and (still waiting for my Dr to inform me of my results) the last time I had my iron checked it was at 80 (which is in the normal range) and now it is at 25.  This is most likely the main cause of my dizziness. I'm waiting on starting Iron supplements until I talk to my Dr because I need to know how much I should be taking.  I already have them as this isn't the first time I've been anemic but this is the worst I've felt and the previous times my numbers have never been this low.

  • Oh man---I hope the doc gets back to you soon so you can a battle plan together. Hang in there, J!!

  • I am glad to hear it is only your iron levels causeing you this trouble, it sounds like that will be an easy fix. Scary though how low your numbers are, hopefully they come up quickly.
  • Good luck Janet!  I had similiar issues over the last year and finally (after three rounds of other tests!) figured out I have dramatically low iron stores.  The spacey light headed feeling is no fun!

I'm sure you could start with the base dose of iron while you wait to hear from your doc, right?  Just to get things started?  My doc told me that it takes like 6 months to get the iron stores back up if you take one regular dose a day.  She also said I could take three pills a day with no danger though the side effects aren't super fun.

Thanks!  I'm starting out with my multi-vitamin and one dose of Iron.  The worst thing is I feel ok in the morning and worse as the day goes on.  I know that iron levels are highest in the morning so I try to get as much done then.  I'm taking my iron in the evening because I have to have milk in my coffee in the morning and milk tends to prohibit the absorption of Iron.

Can't wait until I feel normal again.

  • Ohhh - I hope that it's an easy "fix".  Please keep us posted!
Nobody said life would be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.
