Trying to Get Pregnant

Hot Tub Question

So I know some people don't do anything in the 2ww that they wouldn't do when they're pregnant, but here's my scenario. We have a golfing trip booked with BIL and SIL this weekend and have a hottub rented. We had this all planned out beforehand, as you can not plan around my cycles because they vary so much. Turns out this cycle, I ovulated "early", CD21.  We leave tomorrow and I will be 4DPO and 5DPO during the trip. Would you avoid the hottub altogether, or just go in for short bursts? Does it harm implantation, or just the potential baby afterward? Is 4-5DPO too early to worry about implantation? We also aren't telling anyone we're TTC (it's our first month) so it would be a little bit of an eyebrow raiser for me to skip alcohol and the hottub. Some of my pregnant/mom friends said they had hot baths the entire time. TIA.

Re: Hot Tub Question

  • I would be more worried about how it will impact YH's sperm, but that's just me. I say go in the hot tub, but only for short periods of time and not at an extremely high temp.

  • You could always just sit on the edge with your feet in and say it's too hot for you. I don't think that would raise any eyebrows and you can still socialize.

  • Just wanted to say, have fun on your trip!

FWIW I would probably hot tub.

After 15 cycles and 3 rounds of clomid (50mg) we got our BFP.

  • I would also worry about DH's sperm.  I've heard that a man going into a hot tub can affect his sperm count and quality for up to 90 days (this is from a fert specialist.)  If you're in the 2ww you may want to judge by the water temp.  If it's hot, like 104 hot, then I would just sit on the edge.

  • I would just go ahead and use the hot tub. If you really just don't feel comfortable about it, though, I agree with PP that you can just sit on the side and no one will even think twice about it.

My only suggestion, which may be irrelevant since it'll be unlikely that implantation would have even occurred at that point, is to avoid going directly from hot tub to cold pool. My SIL did that during her 1st tri, before she found out that it was bad to go in the hot tub while pregnant, and it caused her blood pressure to drop so drastically that she passed out. Being rushed to the hospital was definitely a vacation buzz kill.

  • Thanks for the info. ladies! I am worried about DH's sperm count as well, but I think it's unfair to make him skip it. We had this planned before we decided we would start TTC this month. It's a wood-burning hot tub, so we can control the temp pretty easily, so we'll keep it on the cooler side. I'm just gonna make him only go in for quick bursts and make sure he thoroughly cools off in between. He already has baths all the time (and we have to because our house is in renos and we have no shower), but keeps them on the cooler side, which isn't that different from a hot tub if you keep the temp. down. I told him if we aren't KU by the 6th cycle (or by the time the bathroom is finished), he has to ditch the baths for a while. I talked to my mom about it (because my dad only ever has baths due to a back problem that can make his legs go completely paralyzed unexpectedly--temporarily so far) and she said dad had a very hot bath every night and they got KU the first time, all four times. So, here's hoping. FX.

ETA: If this is our cycle, I would feel terrible about making him skip the hot tub.
