Question about Smells...

Ok - a few weeks ago I posted about how my coworker suddenly grosses me out.  I never noticed that he had a smell to him until I got pregnant.  Now, just knowing that he is in the building makes me want to vomit becaue I know if he walks by me I am going to smell that smell.  Not 10 minutes ago he came into my office for about 20 seconds and then left.  I had to spray air freshner because I smelled that familiar smell that only happens when he is around.  I didn't want to say anything to anyone because I didnt want it to get back to him.  Finally today, I had to know, "is this just me??" So I went across the hall to another co-worker's office and asked if she has noticed a smell on him lately.  She said that she hadn't and only smells his normal cologne.  SHe said that he was standing right beside her earlier and didn't notice anything different.  She said that this happened to her friend during pregnancy (apparrently the smell of the husband made the girl sick!)  I guess Im trying to figure out what is causing ONLY me to smell this -- and why is it ONLY him that I smell it on.  No one else grosses me out..and I never noticed any of this smell until I got pregnant. Is it possible for us to miraculously smell people's pheremones or something?

Re: Question about Smells...

  • I think it is probably his personal mojo that you're smelling. Or, it could be his funk that people with normal noses cannot smell.

  • I don't know what it is exactly that we're smelling, but hypersensitivity to smell in pregnancy is totally normal. Kitchens, bathrooms, sheets, laundry (clean or dirty) make me gag. DH does sometimes also. I'm about to head to the cafeteria which will completely take my appetite away.

  • It's your pregnancy nose. I would guess it would go away once baby is here. Could you get one of those air freshener cones to put on your desk so you don't have to spray everytime he comes around. Maybe that would help? My biggest kicker is my house which is so unfortunately. I just smell dusty and old smells in the house and I can't seem to get rid of it. Every candle in the house is lit as soon as I come home so i can try to eliminate it.

I work in a Urologist's office. I can not express in words the nasty smells I have to deal with around here. Old people smell like moth balls, or stale urine...GAG. People that smoke I can smell from a mile away. The worst is when someone is over 3 feet away and I can still smell thier rank breath...gross!!
So true!! hahaha I work in a hospital and piss and bad breath kill me!

  • lots of smells bug me, I never LOVED the way DH smells when he comes in from work, like grease & oil, but he has to shower as soon as he comes in now, I can't handle it. and last weekend I was SO excited for shrimp at a cook out we were at, when they brought the shrimp in a pan cooked and the smell hit me I started gagging and had to leave the area....
