Girl I know just had a little girl this week! Named her Dempsey R0se..
Is it just because I knew a male dog with this name? Or does Dempsey seem masculine to other people? Is it kind of like Delaney?
Friends of mine had a boxer named Dempsey.. it was a boy dog..
and I believe there was a famous Boxer (fighter) with that as a last name..
It just reminds me of Jack Dempsey (the boxer) and Patrick Dempsey. There is nothing feminine about this name and unlike Delaney, I've never heard it as a first name.
I actually like unisex names or more masculine names or nns for girls. I also like surnames as first names (Cooper, etc.), so I think I kinda like it! Will I use it? Not likely, but I think it's pretty cool and unique, but not in a weird spelling sort of way.
I would assume they were huge Grey's Anatomy fans. Patrick Dempsey is famous enough that I bet most people will think of him first - very masculine connotation to me.
When I first saw the post title I thought that I definitely don't like Dempsey for a boy. Then I realized this post would probably be about a girl named Dempsey which is even worse. Dempsey has no feminine qualities whatsoever.

Not a fan of Dempsey or Delaney. They are both firmly inthe surname category for me.

Re: Dempsey
All I can think of is Rick Dempsey who was the catcher for my favorite baseball team back in the 80's.

PAL/PGAL Welcome
I think of Jack Dempseys, the aggressive tropical fish, and the famous boxer they were named after.
To me, you may as well name your daughter Rocky or Butch. It's a hyper-masculine name to me.
