I have a cold. It started as dang allergies that everyone is having now on the east coast because of the season change plus all the rain resulting in mold. I went to a tailgate party on Sunday and there was one of those little fire pits that was just all smoke. I woke up Monday with a head full of snot! I'm a big baby when it comes to not being able to breathe.
Neti pot won't drain, but I still try to do it 3 times a day.
Using Afrin (ok'd by OB) twice a day (as directed).
Using saline nasal spray like it's going out of style.
Sleeping with a humidifier (cool mist)
Took 1 Benedryl Sunday night and 2 last night
I've seen very slight relief, but I think it's just because it's running his course. Zyrtec was approved by my OB and I know a lot of women on here also take it. But on top of all that other crud I'm using, would you use Zyrtec too? I'm so scared this is going to turn into a sinus infection because even though I'm getting relief as far as breathing, my snot is turning more opaque and yellowish/green.
Re: to Zyrtec or not to Zyrtec
I'm totally in denial. But it's really only been a day and a half. If it doesn't get better, I'm going to call the doc.
It is, but I think this is a cold/allergy combo. I went ahead and took it because the inside of my mouth/throat is starting to feel like it has little cuts, which is because of allergies.
I asked my doc about Zyrtec vs Allegra too because I always took Allegra D. She preferred Zyrtec. I think she said because more studies have been done on it, but I can't exactly remember because I had asked during my first pregnancy.
My allergies are bad enough already and with this pg, they have been HORRIBLE. I broke down and took zyrtec b/c I was waking up choking b/c I was so stuffy and my eyes were itchy and swelling and I had finally had ENOUGH! It's on my docs list of approved meds so I took it and man, I feel so much better.
Hope everything works out, feel better!
Luckily this isn't usually true
Nasal secretions turn yellow or green when they sit in there. It's common to have weird colored secretions in the morning or when you haven't blown your nose.
ETA: you should see the snot from facial fracture patients who we don't let blow their nose...gross!
I'm blowing my nose like ever minute! On a good note, I found these Kleenex brand tissues that have a "cooling effect" and they rule.
Tell me about which Tylenol Cold and Flu you've been OK'd for. That sounds like something I want to take!
