Baby Names

Peyton or Payton?

DH likes the name Payton Elizabeth.  I like it a lot too, but I am confused, for a girl would it be with the a or the e?  In my mind the e is for a boy and the a is for a girl.  DH disagrees....

  • I agree..."a" for a girl and "e" for a boy.

  • LOL at the "Elizabeth!"  Funny to me that some on this board love names that I think are a bit, well, weird and then others still love the traditional names!

DH and I are going to struggle to agree because he wants a traditional name, an Elizabeth if you will, and I want something that stands out, but not in an overused, weird way, you know?

I love the idea of a Lizzie, but then I feel like Elizabeth is just too traditional for me.  I do love the way the name sounds together with the traditional MN of Elizabeth, but I too thought iPeyton was so popular.  DH pointed out that we don't know any Peyton's at all.  I know a bazillion aden, braden, caden, jaden, etc.

  • FWIW, I think a name like Elizabeth (Lizzie, Libba, etc) will stand out in a room full of Jayden's and Paytons.

  • Peyton to me is forever associated with Peyton Manning, so I think with an 'e' for a boy. If you're using it for a girl, I guess I'd go with 'a'.

    My thoughts exactly!

  • Peyton has always been more feminine to me. The "e" looks softer.

I feel the same way as you! Although, I do know a few Peytons, so I wouldn't use it myself.

I would use Peyton with an "e". I just think it looks better.

  • To me it looks masculine either way, and changing a vowel in the middle of the word doesn't make any difference.

  • I named my DS Payton with an A. And all the little girls in town with that name spell it with an A too! I feel like an ass. Most boys spell it with an E.

I wish I could change it. But for the most part he goes by his nickname. Or full name when in trouble! lol

I agree, go with Elizabeth and drop the Peyton/Payton part.

  • I hate the name Pe(a)yton in general! Don't you want your daughter to stand out? I say Elizabeth allllll the way maybe even spell it Elisabeth (for an even more classy look) You have al kinds of NN to work with...Liza, Lizzie, Liz, Libby, Libba, Beth, Betsy, Betty, Elle and Ella (the last two are my faves)

  • I was always under the assumption that the a was for girls and the e was for boys.  But I am seeing this name for girls more now and almost always it's spelled with the e (including my own niece).

That being said, the name is NMS at all, and in a few years will get lost amongst all those other long a/ends with n names (ie: the -adens).

I teach 2nd grade and this year I have a Cayden, Hayden, and Ayden....

  • I say Peyton, but either way you spell it I think it is still a boy's name....

  • I love this name and it's actually what I have picked out for a girl. Think I like Peyton better. I know everyone says it super popular but I do not know a single Peyton. And we are going with Peyton Grace. Some will hate it but it's my style.
  • What about Payson or Peyson...a little different, but I like different.
