1st Trimester

Wow. Was not expecting this...

So, I just found out this morning. Was late and got a BFP on a pee test. Online calculators say I'm 4 weeks, due end of May. Was told to wait 2 weeks to go to the doctor by a friend who is on her 2nd pregnancy...

DF and I Re still both in shock. This wasn't planned, though we both want children... we are happy, but still shocked.

Also, now that I know, I have been terrified of losing it...  have ongoing light cramps that are freaking me out, though internet research says they are normal?

1st pregnancies are scary stuff, huh?

  • Congrats! It's my first pregnancy as well, and it is scary! I haven't been able to let myself really get excited yet because I'm trying not to get my hopes up in case something goes wrong. I've known for 2 weeks now and don't get so freaked out by a tiny bit of spotting or short lived minor cramps like I did the first few days, but I am still pretty paranoid about everything! I am dying to tell my parents, but we are waiting until after our first prenatal appointment on Oct 6. It feels like an eternity away! Anyway I'm trying to enjoy being pregnant, but it's hard when there is so much to be nervous about in the first trimester. I hope you can enjoy it, and I hope that everything goes well for you!

  • Ditto. Initially I was reluctant to tell my family about my pg..I am due April 2012 but just reading things about miscarriages made me come around. It is hard to get excited when there is so much room for error PLUS you feel like you aren't giving your baby enough nutrients because of all the hurling. But there is no match for the support and love we have received from both of our families. And we know that if anything was to go wrong (God forbid!) we would have that same love and support surrounding us to help us through it! That should ease your mind a bit.

  • Congrats! It's scary even when it's your third...trust me! This is a great board to be on though to make sure everything is "normal". It will bring you a lot of comfort in the coming weeks/months.

    Best wishes!

  • Hi, welcome!  I had light on and off cramps around 4 weeks as well.  I had it with my daughter too, although I remember it lasting longer with her.  This one is on occasional right now.  I think I am still as freaked out the second time as the first time honestly, but a little more at ease.

  • This is my first pregnancy as well and I agree that they are scary!  All of my closest friends have children and each of them has had at least one miscarriage, so I am fearful that something will go wrong with my pregnancy.  But, I am trying to have faith that it will all work out.  I have PCOS and my husband and I thought it might take years (if ever) to conceive.  Somehow, miraculously, we conceived in our FIRST month of trying.  Boy, was that a surprise!  Good luck to you!

  • I am on the shocked but happy train :) We were not trying and I was on BC but now that they're here I cannot imagine losing them (twins). It is my 1st pregnancy also. It is amazing how quickly you feel attached.
  • I completely agree; this our first, and this whole pregnancy thing is scary! lol. Like I told my DH, I would go through anything for this baby; I just never knew it was like this. It's just that you never really know what it's like until you've gone through it, I guess. We've been terrified of losing this baby too; we both want it so badly.

Anyway, yes, I've had cramping too (off and on since week 4), and actually just had some last night too (first time in a week or so). It's pretty anxiety-producing, but from everything I've read, it's pretty normal.

And yes, most probably, even if you call your doctor now, they probably wont schedule you until at least week 6. Mine wanted to wait until between 6 & 8, so I had my first appt and ultrasound at 7 weeks, 2 days.

    Good luck! Smile
