Any 'Day out with Thomas' tips?

My son is 5 and he's the one who really wants to go but is he a little big for it?  DD is excited too.  She's almost 3.

We are doing the combo pass thing with the separate train ride @ Strasburg RR.

  • Be prepared to park far away in a field and ride a shuttle to the station. Take as little "stuff" as possible because it's super crowded. If you can, bring lunch or go someplace else to eat. The food lines were crazy when we were there.

Your son will love it! It's a really fun day!

  • If you go early Sunday morning (or any early ticket), you will avoid a lot of lines. But on Sunday, you won't see a lot of Amish people.

A really cool thing is to take the Thomas train to https://www.cherrycrestfarm.com/ ,go play there for a while and have lunch, then go back and explore all the tents, etc. that the Thomas event puts up.

If you just go for the Thomas event, you might be too tired to go anywhere else! It's a great event and there is lots to do.

Across the street (you can walk there) is the RR museum. Very fun, but you could do a half a day there. There is also the Choo Choo barn which is short and fun. Issac's is a decent place to eat, but it will be jammed!

  • I am not a huge fan of Isaac's although they are v. popular.  Nice group, corporately though.  They did a fundraiser for the foodbank I volunteer with.
