I've been on bedrest now for a few weeks, and the doctors have me take progesterone everynight before bed, but instead of taking it orally, they have me take it vaginally. That is the first time I have ever heard of taking a pill like that. Has anyone else done this and know why they have me take it this way and not orally??
Re: Progesterone vaginally?
I was just put on bedrest for a shortened cervix this past Monday. My OB gave me a perscription for a progesterone suppository and explained that the pharmacy might not have them and they may give me the pill form instead. She said if that happens, I should not take it orally but instead insert the pill into my vagina. I think the point is for the cervix to absorb the progesterone (don't quote me on that).
My pharmacy did have the suppository form but its expensive and my insurance didn't cover it. It's $130 for a 30 day supply.
