Being that I already have one child with food allergies and am about to try to have another child. Was there any advice about things to avoid during pregnancy to possibly decrease chances of a child with food allergies?
This is a controversial subject amongst allergist. However I have been told that if I have another child that I would need to avoid the top 8 and artificial flavorings, colorings, and perservatives.
I do blame my diet a lot on my son's allergies. his allergies are milk/soy/eggs/peanuts and i ate soy patties (about 4 - 6 a day) and never organic. I ate about a cup to two of PB a day and 2 to 3 eggs a day. I was always worried i didn't have enough protein since i was a diabetic vegetarian.
I did change a bit this time. No PB anymore. I have 1 organic egg in the morning with spinach. I only eat 2 patties twice a week and they are organic (no gmo). I eat more fruits/veggies.
the only advise i got from my allergist is to avoid peanuts completely since there isn't enough study done if eating it during the pregnancy helps or not. and eat everything in moderation.
I'm so curious to know if this little guy has allergies or not! i hope he doesn't but i will feel terrible for my DS1 that he's stuck with all of them. I just can't imagine dealing with two kids with allergies! even though i plan on keeping both on the same diet, you just don't have to be so strict with things he picks up or plays with.
DS1 is allergic to eggs, peanuts, turkey and dairy. He's slowly outgrowing dairy though. I asked his allergist when I became pregnant with DS2 and she said not to avoid any of his allergic foods but to not go overboard either. I still eat PB a few times a week and have yogurt and other dairy. I've pretty much cut out turkey since DS can't have it anyway and I've never been a fan of eggs. I do eat stuff baked with them though.
DS wasn't allergic to my BM when I was pumping and I ate all of these foods in moderation (probably more PB since I was trying to keep my protein up). I plan to just do everything in moderation and hope DS2 doesn't have the same issues.
* DS1...allergic to dairy, peanuts, eggs and turkey *

Our allergist and pedi both told me that the research is so mixed and convoluted that I should continue with regular eating habits. That said- I've always eaten foods in moderation, bought mostly organic, very little prepared stuff etc. My oldest is allergic to dairy, wheat, eggs, peanuts and bananas. We suspect that my younger son has dairy and egg issues but won't have that confirmed until October. I think a lot of the allergy issues are genetic for us. My DH had dairy issues as an infant, mild asthma and eczema as a child and still has horrible seasonal allergies.
