We are trying to get custody of our 13 yr old niece who is in an unhealthy home. We just did all of the paperwork to approve our background checks and we'll have a home visit at some point. The only home visits I'm familiar with have to do with animal rescue, and I know they aren't going to be the same. So what should we look forward to?
April is National Grilled Cheese Month. How are you celebrating?
Re: Home visit: what to expect?
Your caseworker should be able to give you more detail, because every one is a little different. But basically they're just coming to your house to make sure that it's a safe home for a child. Some home visits include checking on safety issues like fire extinguishers, etc. Some focus on locking up things like alcohol, etc. Some also include in-depth discussions with you about foster/adopt and your backgrounds.
GL. I hope it works out for you.
