1st Trimester

freezer cooking to prepare for feeling sick

Hi all! I am newly pg with #2 and I am thinking of doing some freezer cooking this weekend to stock my freezer with meals for those weeks when I start to feel sick and super tired. I want my family to still be able to eat healthy but I know from last time that I could barely get off the couch to cook around week 10. Anyone have any good freezer recipes that they want to share?

  • You should ask this on 3rd tri because that's normally when people start worrying about freezer meals.

  • I usually do a search for "OAM" on food.com Once a month cooking... super helpful and I WISH I had done this in the first few weeks because I am just now feeling ok cooking again...

  • There is a website called www.emilybites.com  that has some some awesome casserole/one-dish ideas.  It is actually a weightwatchers blog, but this girl comes up with some awesome recipes.  All of her lasagnas are to die for (I have had the best ever, white veggie, and buffalo chicken) and they all freeze well.

  • I think it is a great idea to worry about freezer cooking now since I have been through this before and know that my first trimester was the worst! I hope some ladies on the first tri board may find this helpful too. I know that after my DS was born I had so many people bringing me food that I did not need a freezer full then.

  • Cool website!  Did anybody check out the mac & cheese recipe that's on the front now?  Would plain old extra sharp cheddar work fine?

I'm sure plain old cheese would work just fine!  I LOVE everything that I have tried from this site and it is generally very easy to follow and for the most part, pretty healthy.  I am serious about the lasagna--it is sooooo worth making!

  • Some of these are from my blog.

    Lasagna

    Chicken Alfredo Bake

Lasagna Rolls (just omit the green onion; I've heard that doesn't freeze well).

    Italian Meatloaf

    Chicken Spaghetti

    Pizza Casserole

    Chicken Enchiladas

Note: I don't necessarily cook healthy!

  • I cook Sundays so when I get home from work M-F I can just stick something in the oven. Here is a list of some things I make and freeze...

    Chicken pot pie
Shepards pie (sometimes with turkey sometimes beef and sometimes bison depending on the mood I am in)
    Mac n Cheese
    Lasgna
    Stuffed shells
    Chicken parm
    Eggplant parm

I think thats about it. They are all really easy/simple to make. Let me know if you are interested in any recipies. Smile
