Preemies

Does your pedi call just to check in?

because ours does - I don't know if this is standard procedure, but it's always unexpected and really nice! We last saw her on Thursday for reflux and then she called this afternoon to see how he has been since then and had been thinking about what to do if I said there had been no improvement (there hadn't). I'm so happy with her!

  • Before I moved to a new state, mine did. I didn't think it was normal, he knew me since I was a baby.

DS was in and out of the hospital for a long time, and his pedi didn't go to that hospital, but he would call weekly.

  • Nope.  You have a nice pedi.

That said, she is SUPER about all the referrals and getting the info she says she will get for us.  His surgery appt was set up lightening fast.

  • Yes and I love her! She even called on a Sunday after a pretty scary event just to make sure that everyone was doing well. I love that she always asks about my well being too.
  • No, I wish! I work in the medical field & I think there are a lot of great doctors out there but they are just spread so thin.  Not making an excuse for my pedi because I sure as crap wish she would. Instead I feel like a crazy lady who advocates for her son with the other dr's in the practice. It seems like when I have "sick" visits for his reflux, no one wants to listen to me & my pedi is never available for them. It's getting very frustrating. Sorry I just turned your post into my rant. lol

Haha, no problem! That's really, super frustrating! I'm glad to hear others are doing this and I wish they all would. I was so shocked the first time she called! She gets done with appts at 8 p.m. a few nights/week and will call as late as 8:30! She's always seen T herself and only just sent a resident on a weigh-in check, but then she came in and spent about 15 min or so talking to us about T. She remembers every little thing I've told her - better than I do. I'm amazed. I wound up with her by sheer luck - she had a first available appt when T was being discarged - I had a different dr listed as his primary given randomly by the closest CHOP office. I'd like to write her a thank you around the holidays.

  • Mine did this today and I thought it was really nice.  We have only had one appointment with him so far (we just brought the twins home 1 1/2 weeks ago) and I'm really happy with him.  I hope he continues to call and check in---especially these first couple months!
