Just made the decision to spend both Thanksgiving and Christmas here. We will be doing a post-christmas trip to Orlando, but will spend the actual day-of here.
I feel like 1000 lbs. has been lifted from my shoulders.
We laid down the hammer after Ridge's first birthday. We would spend Christmas Eve and Christmas morning at our home. This is where Santa comes and we would be here to watch the boys wake up and run to see what he left.
There were some drama tears (MIL) but the hammer was pounded and I felt so much better and like I could enjoy the holidays again. Good for you for making a decision.
Good for you! We used to do Thanksgiving at our house and Xmas in FL. A lot has changed this year so the holidays are going to be rough but we are also changing up the routine. We are most likely going down there for Thanksgiving and they are coming here for Xmas. I just worry about my sister who is taking a trip to Seattle for 2 weeks in Jan and says she won't have time to take off. It wouldn't be the same without my niece and nephews especially like I said before with everything that has happened this year. But I am just going to roll with the punches.......
It just makes so much sense. Thanksgiving is such a short holiday, plus I am lucky to get the entire week off after Christmas every year. So spending both here, then going down there afterward is my plan from now on.
Thankfully my mom was super cool about it - progress!
We did this for Christmas last year. My mom and MIL didn't believe I would stick to my word but I had a 3 week old baby and was recovering from a c/s. I was not about to drag us out for our usual insanity. Then Gavin ended up with that weird illness where he couldn't even walk so that sealed the deal. We had a yummy turkey from Honeybaked Ham and watched Christmas movies and made cookies and just rested. It was nice. We're back to the insanity again this year. I'm not even thinking about it yet. I'm considering flipping a coin to decide who's family we spend Christmas Eve/Day with. It's too hard trying to make it to both families on both days!
