NBR: What should I do with my hair?

I'm considering growing my hair out.  It grows extremely slowly, so I thought that pregnancy might be the time to do it since it's growing a little faster than normal.  I had it short from age 10-19.  I grew it long and then cut it off again when I was 22.  I'm now 27.  Part of me feels like I won't always be able to have long hair, so I might as well do it while I'm still young.  Also, I've gained some weight over the past 5 years, so I don't think that having short hair is as flattering as it once was.  Finally, I think long hair might be easier.  I could shower at night and just straighten (wouldn't take too long, my hair is mostly straight anyway) in the morning.  Now, I have to shower, blow dry, and curl my hair before it looks decent.  Here are some pics.  Let me know what you think.

Here are some recent pics.

This is a pic of my hair at its longest.  I don't think I would grow it quite this long again.  I'd probably go about 2-3 inches shorter than this.

The problem I always had with my long hair is that it seemed to be stringy a lot.  Also, I have kind of a high hairline, and my ears stick out, so I think I look goofy in a pony tail.  And let's be honest, with two LOs running around, I have a feeling it would end up in a pony a lot.

Here's a couple of less than flattering pictures of me and my long hair.

This one is the same day as the last one.  How did it go from looking okay to look terrible?  My big worry is that my long hair would look like this more often than it would look like the previous picture.

I need opinions, please!

  • I think your hair looks beautiful when it is chin-length. However, I understand the desire to have longer hair. You should let it grow and see how you like it because you can always get it cut again if you decide you do not like it long or if it ends up being more work. GL! I am currently growing out a pixie cut and my hair is testing my patience.

  • I agree that it is cute chin length!  I think it is really flattering on you.  I have the same problem with my ears sticking out when it is in a pony tail.  I like it short, but it couldn't hurt to grow it out and then if you don't like it cut it again.

  • I agree with PP on chin length.  It flatters your face really well.  I hope you're not pregnant in those pics because your skin is amazing!  I'm super jealous with my new 14-year-old skin!!

My problem with my long hair is that it inevitably ends up in a pony and I look like a college student.

  • I personally love it short - the second picture is fab!  I've gone through the same stages as you - and had my hair very similar to yours when it was short.  I think you could still wash the short hair and night and then just run a blowdryer/round brush or flat iron on it in the morning.  For me, I think long hair is more work!

  • I really like the short hair but if you wanna grow it out I would put some layers in to kinda make it have more movement andnalso maybe cut some side bangs to sweep across your forehead. Even if you pull it up in a ponytail the bangs give it more style
