Refer to my chart below if you need to! Anyway, yesterday my OPK was VERY positive and my temperature spiked. Today my temperature was back to normal and my OPK was definitely negative. I DO NOT have a series of high temps in a row. It is possible (I guess) that I MIGHT have 2 high temps in a row, because I couldn't temp on Friday...
So, my question is- should I continue to take OPKs for the next few days, because maybe I didn't ovulate? Maybe my body just "geared up" to ovulate, but never did? What would you do regarding OPKs? I will continue to temp daily.
Re: OPK question
For a while, I thought that my thermometer was broken, so I took my temperature at different times of the day, and even under my armpit- and the temps were all different. Though, it does seem unlikely that my temperatures are SO consistent, right?
You can certainly keep taking the OPKs... however, it's quite possible that you did ovulate.
OPKs only detect a surge in Luteinizing Hormone (aka LH -- which is the chemical that is released to signal the ovary to release the egg). The surge is temporary, and goes away quickly. Depending on how frequently you test, it's very possibly to only have one positive OPK, and then have the next (and all others after, until the following cycle) be negative. Lots of people confuse how these work with how pregnancy tests work (a pregnancy test will continue to stay positive -- assuming the pregnancy continues -- because the hCG levels keep increasing).
Also, some women may experience a temperature dip right around the time of ovulation. So keep temping. You are looking for the broader pattern. Don't focus on any one temperature (because lots of things could cause a particular temperature to spike or drop out of the norm). If your temperature continues to stay down for a few days, and does not go back up, then you will know you didn't ovulate. If it goes back up, and stays up for 3+ days, you'll know you ovulated.
