Twilight series readers...

Would you let a 10 year old read these books?

I wouldn't. I think that they are inappropriate for kids that young. There's a discussion on another board I visit about someone letting their 10 year old read them.

I was a middle school English and remedial reading teacher, and I wouldn't have recommended the series to a kid that young at all.

I think that at some point, a parent needs to A) actually read what they are letting their kids read and B) say no. I don't care how 'precocious' your little darling is, there are some things that they just shouldn't read until it is developmentally appropriate.

  • I've heard a lot about these books- what is the story about?

  • High school aged vampire, but not as trashy as it sounds. They are very well written and appeal to a lot of adults, as well as the teens that the books were written for.

  • I LOVED these books.  I do think 11 is too young to read them.  They are teen fiction, I think 14 is the youngest I would let my daughter read these.

  • I don't think they are appropriate for 5th graders.  Then again, i may be the wrong person to ask.  i never thought the Harry Potter books were appropriate for some of the young kids that read them either.
  • I agree. ?I blushed during the last book in the series and I am 24! ?10 is way too young. ?High School--okay. ?

  • I haven't read them yet, but my girlfriend is reading them right now and she's addicted to them!
  • Oh, there's no way I would let any kid under the age of 14 read them (and that's even pushing it, IMO)  I just finished the series......the last book is really graphic!!
  • I'm reading the last book in the series now. The first three books are pretty tame, sexually, but there are some pretty violent scenes that I would not let my child who was under 14 or so read. Also, there are some very adult themes running through the books that bothered me. The main characters are constantly talking about how they would rather die than be apart. Bella and Edward are both suicidal, and Bella's attitude of "I'm going to pout until you make me a vampire" is disturbing.  Overall, not messages I think are appropriate for young teenagers, let alone pre-teens.
