1st Trimester

Baby measuring 2 weeks behind

I should be 7 weeks pregnant. Today at our first ultra, baby is measuring 4weeks 6 days.

Almost a full 2 weeks behind

They are doing blood to determine if the pregnancy is still viable. Hopeful, but trying to prepare myself either way

Possible blighted ovum

Anyone have a similar story and care to share the outcome? Good or bad, i'm just trying to get some perspective

Re: Baby measuring 2 weeks behind

  • Why do you think you should be 7 weeks pg? Based on your LMP? You could have very well ovulated late. If I went by my LMP last pg I would have been like a month behind.

  • Were you charting? When did you get your BFP and when was your LMP?  It's very likely that you ovulated later in your cycle.  If you look at my chart, the cycle I got my BFP I O'd pretty much exactly 2 weeks late, and got my BFP at 9dpo. If I had not been charting and going by the date of my LMP alone, I would have looked like I was measuring 2 weeks behind as well.

GL and hopefully this will have a positive outcome!

  • I don't know exactly when my LMP was. I wasn't charting, this was a surprise bfp

I am almost 100% positive the date of conception was August 5th

We have a little one and aren't romping all that often. I remember the date because it was a friends birthday.

    I got my BFP 8/24

Okay, well let's say you had sex on 8/5 and O'd 3 days later (3 days is really the max fertile window). It would make sense for you to have gotten a BFP on 8/24, which would have been 16 dpo, especially if this was a surprise and you weren't obsessively testing from 9dpo.  If you O'd on 8/8 then you would be 4-1/2 weeks pregnant now, which is where your u/s is dating you.  So hopefully no worries?

And if you don't remember the date of your LMP, where did 7 weeks come from?

  • 7 weeks came from some internet chart...? And from my midwife when I told her my dates. She seemed to think (without seeing or examining me, just seeing the abdominal ultrasound) that I should be preparing myself for a miscarriage

I went to get a second opinion and a and a transvaginal ultrasound from a Dr. who gave me much more hope (after I had cried and cried my eyes out and believed the pregnancy was over). He still seemed concerned with the dates, but said we'd have to wait for a second blood draw on Monday to know anything positively

Thank you so much, after readying myself for it to be over, you have helped me have some serious hope. What your saying makes sense and is SO appreciated

  • All you can do at this point is repeat another ultrasound in 1-2 weeks to see if there's growth.  Fingers crossed for you.

I bet you are fine!  It sounds like maybe you O'd after you had sex, in which case you'd be 4 1/2, max 5 weeks along...so 4w6d would be right on the money.

  • Try to stay positive.  I went in for our first appointment thinking I was around 6-6.5w even though based on my lmp I would have been almost 8 weeks (I know I O late).  When we did the ultrasound they could only see the yolk sac, no baby and measured me at 5 weeks.  This made NO sense based on when my husband and I had sex, nor when I should have ovulated, so I was extremely worried that I would be miscarrying.  They had me come back in for a second ultrasound 2 weeks and 3 days later (so I should have been 7w3d at this ultrasound based on the last one), but all of the sudden the tech said I was actually measuring at 8w2 days.  Apparently their last measurement was off, otherwise I had magically advanced another week ahead.  Basically, what I'm trying to say is that measurements early on can be off a little.  Try to stay positive until your next ultrasound, you may be surprised to find that you're a little further along than they originally thought.  Or maybe you did just happen to O late this cycle, and baby is exactly where it should be.  GL!

  •  Hi all,

I'm in the same situation. My LMP was July 11th. I have 5 week cycles and know I ovulate on the 3rd week. I think I O'd on July 30th and had my BFP on August 12th--very faint but it was there.

I went in for a check and ultrasound on August 30th, when I should have been 6 weeks (7 weeks to them, since my LMP was July 11th), but was barely showing anything. The doc wanted me to get measured by an early pregnancy ultrasound.

I went in on Sept 12th when I should have been 8 weeks (9 weeks to them) and the baby measured 6 weeks 1 day.

I go back tomorrow and am so nervous.

I have a question though...should I be measuring my weeks from my ovulation date or my LMP? Because if I measure from my O date, I am 6 weeks. But every website says that by the time you get your BFP you are 4 weeks along because the process starts with the LMP.

I am oh so very confused.

    Please HELP!
