Trying to Get Pregnant

New to board and quick question

I'm new to this board and have a question i was hoping you guys could help me with.  I went off the pill last month and should have gotten my period this week. Haven't gotten it yet.  How long should I wait to take a test, could it just be my body readjusting to being off the pill?

Thanks so much!

  • You can test now but it's probably from coming of BC. Take a test once a week until a BFP or AF. If you go 60 days with no period you can contact your Dr.GL!

  • It took my 3 months to get one.  I think after 3 months you are supposed to call the dr.  But I think 6 is normal.
  • Welcome.  Yes it can take awhile for your body to get used to being off the pill. It took me 6 weeks to get my first period off the pill and after that I've regulated back to 29-31 day cycle. Everyone is different though.

  • It can take up to 6 months plus to get your body back in track on a regular cycle. Sometimes that's not always the case I have seen people get back on track a month or less. I would wait at least another week to take a test but try not to worry to much cause your body is just trying to get back on track. GL! :)

  • Totally normal (just see my chart below)...can take several months to get 'regular'...I have found temping very helpful and suggest it.

  • It may take a while to come back to any form of regularity.  My first AF came on CD24, and was mostly spotting with just one day of real "flow".  My best friend had hers twice in a four week span when she went off of the pill.

I'd say test weekly until BFP or AF.

  • It's pretty normal for your cycles to be quite wonky after coming off the pill. It took me over a year for my cycles to become stable. During that time I had a number of very long cycles where I didn't appear to ovulate at all.

Keep in mind that while on the pill your "cycles" are fake. They're controlled by the pill, and thus will always seem regular. But what is actually regular for you may be entirely different. The length of your natural cycle may be significantly shorter/longer than the 28 days on the pill. Since you just went off the pill, it would be difficult to impossible to know what is considered "late" for your body -- at least until you've had quite a few cycles since stopping the pill, and thus had a chance to learn how your body will act without the hormones.

Personally, I'd wait a little longer to test. I'd also look into charting (even if you don't do temps) to help you learn about your natural cycles. But, if you really want to test, pick up a cheap test and try it...
