So happy and frustrated at the same time.
We did the 3 day PT this weekend and it went really well. Almost a week in now and DS is using the potty regularly for pee and staying dry. We still have to catch him in the act of poop, but if we do he goes on the potty for that too.
Talking is another story. He's been seeing a speech pathologist once a week since June and the progress is so slow. The only word he uses regularly is NO.
It just kills me that we can tackle such a hurdle as potty training, but we can't get our little guy to talk to us. He is so smart. Understands everything. The speech therapy exercises can get so repetitive. I'm tired of listening to myself on most days.
Re: He can't talk, but he can use the potty!
Not exactly on topic but you and I are mommy twins. Our tickers are almost identical!
My son has very few words. He is learning but it is slow. Anything physical he accomplishes very quickly. We just started the potty training and it is going fine but slow.
Have patience, mommy. He'll get there!
How funny about our tickers... love that I have a mommy twin. And thanks for the encouragement.
Yeah, I love it too!
Encouraging others helps me remember what I get frustrated over. The slow speech development is frustrating but I know it will come. With my son he is just so into playing and being active I know he isn't paying me much attention when I talk to him
) Typical male! Yesterday he said "doggy" but I haven't heard it today. I just wish he wouldn't scream at me to voice frustration or get my attention. That is his newest thing! ugh!!
Anyway, someday we will look back on these days and miss the silly baby talk when they are mouthing off to us!
I've been working a part-time contract position this summer and DS has been with my mom on those days, but otherwise, yes, I am a SAHM. I have seriously thought about doing this same thing. It's hard not to compare, but we do know a couple SAH kids the same age as DS who are talking... so I keep hanging on to "he's going to get it." I am looking at a program that is a couple times a week for him. I may start him next month when I'm completely confident in his potty training. We'll see. I think it'd be good for him anyway.
How long did it take before you started seeing improvement in your DSs speech?
Probably around 2 or 3 months. I remember on one of the first days there he walked up to one of the kids and did his gibberish and the kids looked right at him and said "I don't know what you are saying" DS looked confused. LOL! Poor guy, it didn't take long for him to come around!
