C-sections

Anyone else's baby GBS positive?

I had an emergency c-section after a 30 hour labor due to baby in distress. My son ended up in the NICU for 17 days due to GBS, Sepsis, Pneumonia, Collapsed Lung, Meconium Aspiration Syndrome and several other things. There were NO PROBLEMS until I started pushing. Pregnany was fine. I was GBS negative (or so we thought).

It is hard for me to find other mom's who have a similar experience. Just wondering if any one you guys had to deal with this too and wanted to know what your experience was like?

 Thanks!

Re: Anyone else's baby GBS positive?

  • I was born with pneumonia(mom's water broke, the litmus test was wrong, mom had GBS). I also had kidney failure and was pronounced dead twice, all while being 6 week premature.  Mom was told I would have hearing difficulties, learning problems, and probably have sight issues/blind due to the pure oxygen I was given. 30 years later, I'm a perfectly normal adult. Graduated 8th in my class(although, I was in prefirst. so I graduated when I was 19).  I do have scars on my wrist, chest, and under my belly button. They are quite gross if you are not used to them.

I don't have experience as a mom with all of those issues, BUT I want to tell you that I had a rough start and am here to tell the tale!

    Hugs to you!

OMG!!!  That is a truly inspiring story!!  My son wasnt breathing for seven minutes after he was born and I was told all the same things your mom was told!!  I am so happy everything worked out for you :)   So far my son is doing great!  We have to take him to a ton of specialist just to be sure but when we took him to the Emory Developmental Clinic in Atlanta they said that he is in the 94th percentile!!!!  I know he is only 10 1/2 months old but hearing news like that combined with stories like yours is truly amazing and such a relief (to say the least)!!!

Thank you for sharing!!!!!!!  A big hug right back!  :)

  • My LO wasn't GBS positive but she did have e coli sepsis. She was in the NICU for 15 days - it was such a hard experience. We thought she would be up with us in the room that night - then we got word she needed a spinal tap and it was kind of all down hill for a few days. But luckily all worked out and she got the medicine and care she needed and she's a totally healthy little lady!
