Trying to Get Pregnant

PCOS anyone? - diet tips/tricks - Metformin??

Hello!

Yesterday the doctor made the final decision.... she believes I have PCOS.

She started me on Agyestin (sp?) yesterday to bring on AF, since I haven't seen her for a couple months! .. Then my hubby, dr, and I decided it was a good idea if I go back on BCP for a while so I can try to get my eating style and weight under control. -  The dr said she would like to see me weight 150. I'm at 204 right now. --- So I have about 54 lbs to lose! -

Wondering what has been sucessful for people? - I'm already trying to cut out the processed sugars/flour/carbs- things of that nature-

Also wondering if anyone as been prescribed Metformin for this and if this is something I should ask my dr about.

Or Anything else anyone would like to share that could help me! I'm all ears! - I'm determined to manage this condition So i can get pregnant successfully..hopefully without fertility intervention -

Thanx!

  • I don't have PCOS, but I did have about 20lbs to lose a few months ago from a bad BCP/anti-depressant combo. I signed up for Glamour's BodyByGlamour program, which was a really effective diet, exercise, food journal program. Also, it's free, so that's a pretty sweet bonus. I highly recommend it for weight loss!

  • I have PCOS and am currently taking Metformin and have been for some time...I believe it has helped me as far as I can tell.  It combined with Prometrium helped regulate my periods again.  My sugar has been under 100 since i've been taking metformin so in my case I say it has worked and helped.

As for diet- I weigh 240 and my doctor has not discougaged me from TTC even though i am overweight, he just has given me some tips and guidelines to follow so I can loose weight.  I started this TTC journey at 260lbs so it is possible to loose it. Its just harder for me now that I have lost those first easy lbs.  My docs tips- eat lots of whole wheat....so i eat oatmeal(i have high cholestoral too so i eat this all the time) cheerios, whole wheat bread, I try and stay away from carb, although it is hard, i eat as many veggies as I can and I eat some fruit but I have to becareful because of the sugar in them.  i buy brown rice instead of white(takes a hell of a lot longer to cook but the taste really isnt that different) all and all I try to eat very healthy...I also exercise. Exerices is important cause you cant just loose the weight by eating right...plus it helps me let off steam and i have a lot more energy!

    good luck!

Good Luck to you as well! - After this post I got more info in the mail from my 1st dr's visit telling me my bloodwork came back that I have high Cholestoral as well !- SO i'm in the same boat as you sounds like !

I would LOVE to be able to start TTC in like January or Feburary... We'll see how that goes!

Good Luck to you and I hope everything keeps going well for you... Lots of skinny dust for you!!!! :) I dont know if 'skinny' dust is a thing... But if it isn't- i'm making it a thing right now. - :)
