Daycare moms - N has rough nights on the days he goes?

I'm starting to notice on the days N goes to Daycare (2x/per week) he has a horrible time sleeping. He cries a lot before bed - mostly wanting me to spend time with him. Took over 2 hr to get him to sleep last night. Then he wakes up several time crying and wanting me to hold him. He's 2 1/2 and has been going for 2 months already. I'm at a point where I don't know if it's worth sending him with all the fussiness and crying at night. Any thoughts? Did your kids go through this too?

  • could he be overtired?  when my girls first started at a new dc (4 days a week) the first full month we had to put them to bed almost an hour earlier than their "normal" bedtime because they were just so exhausted (from the stress of the new place, routine, and just having a busy toddler day I guess) and there are some days even now a year later we have to put them down a little earlier sometimes b/c they get so worn out...

I would also try really talking up dc, and giving him as much of your attention as possible after a day of daycare (especially when you/he first arrive home)

  • Maybe overtired? DD goes to daycare 3-4 days a week and she usually sleeps really great those nights because she had such a busy day!
  • Like PP I would guess that he is over tired. When my DD doesn't nap well at DC she gets super cranky in the evenings.  On those nights we normally keep it  a low key evening and put her to bed 15-30 min early.

  • My kids go 2 days a week and have to go to bed 30 min to an hour earlier those days or they sleep really bad.

  • He's probably over tired because he plays so hard at Daycare.  DD is always bad when she stays home with gma because she doesn't take a nap.
  • Just as a precaution I would make sure that things are okay at the daycare.  A lot of times when there are problems kids will start to "act out" (for lack of a better term) with their sleep, behavior and eating habits.
