Cloth Diapering

big mistake? what to do?

I used a tide washing machine cleaner packet in an empty hot cycle per the instructions. (been having stinky washer issues). the day after I did diaper laundry. well everything came out smelling strongly like the tide cleaner! should I throw everything in and do another wash? I have no idea what is in the stuff and hope it didnt hurt the diapers

  • I'd just do another wash in your regular detergent and see how it goes. I doubt one "treatment" with something off will ruin your diapers.
  • I personally would probably rinse to death or strip, just to be sure.

  • I'd just wash a couple extra times or strip if that didn't work. As for your stinky washer syndrome do you use liquid or powder detergent? Liquid detergent always gave us a stinky problem but as soon as we switched to powder of any kind it went away.
  • I used the Tide washer cleaner, and you're right - it does really smell! I think I did 2 empty loads after to clear it all away, then a load of towels.  I think you could wipe down the drum with vinegar and that might help.  I wouldn't think it would hurt the diapers!

  • FWIW the Sears repairman suggested that we use washer magic once a month for a front loading washer and once per season for a top loading washer to prevent detergent build up.  He said that most of the other things on the market don't really work.
