Can someone give me the 411 on temping?!?!

I'd like to start temping to see if I am ovulating.  I weaned DS about a month ago and have yet to see a period.  I'd like to understand my body better but I'm pretty clueless on temping.  Do I need a specific thermometer?  

Any good websites or resources are appreciated, thanks!
