1st RE Visit

So I go this Friday! FINALLY! But now my stomach is in a knot and I need to gather my thoughtsEmbarrassed...So can you ladies give me questions I should be asking?  I know we all have different dx's but some general questions I should be asking to make sure this RE is on the up and up would be very helpful and/or questions you wish you had asked be starting...

TIA Smile

Re: 1st RE Visit

  • I am not sure what type of testing you have had done already but you can start by asking about any additional testing.  I also like to know how many patients my RE has seen that are like me (with my dx).  I know everyone is the same but it is nice to know that they have experience with patients like me.  That is a good start. I am not sure where you are in the process from your post so I am not too much help but GL to you.

...also, you should cheeck the SART rates of your clinic if you haven't done so already.

    TTC since 3/07. IVF#1 = canceled. IVF#2 = 0% fertilization. IVF#3 = BFN. IVF#4 = c/p.
    Moving forward with Adoption 2017!

Sorry about that! I am in the VERY beginning of this.  I have had an u/s and blood work to determine my hormone levels.

  • Good luck darling! You will likely get other testing such as more bloodwork (also checks for chicken pox and MMR immunity), std panel, HSG, SHG, your DH will have to have his SA (maybe more than one) and a mock transfer if you have decided to go the IVF route. I would also ask about their DE program, wait times, matching process etc (I assume you're doing the IVF w/ donor egg, but correct me if I'm wrong).

Find out about their success rates, anything else like ICSI? Do they recommend any chromosome testing or additional bloodwork panels (CF, immunity)?

2 IVFs & 1 FET. Welcome home baby girl!

Hi hon! Thanks sooooo much for the input! and yes. Unless the RE does another u/s and miraculously finds some ovaries, then DE/IVF, is what is on the table for now.

Also....Hope all is going well with your cycle (((HUGS))))

  • Oh, also this is a personal thing but if it's important to you to actually see the RE and not a bunch of technicians each time then you'll definitely want a smaller clinic. Both large and small ones can be good or bad, but I love our clinic because I feel like we know everyone that works there (and they know us) and it's helped me to feel more comfortable and relaxed versus a cattle call sort of operation.

Good point! I am going to the Dr's satellite office here, so that might be something to ask about.

I also failed to read that you were doing DE.  I just started the research on this part but one thing that DE ladies told me is that if you can do a shared risk/guarantee program do it.  Even though it will cost you more, it is worth it in the end.  You either end up with a baby or your money back.

    GL to you!

  • Also, add youself to the DE/DS check-in - if you have not already.  There are a great group of ladies on there with a wealth of knowledge.  They will definitely be able to steer you in the right direction!
