Infertility

IVF in another country?

A few weeks ago I was watching House Hunters and there was a couple on there who concieved their child doing IVF in the Czech Republic.  I had never heard of anything like that.  I just googled it tonight and found this website https://ivfvacation.com/index.html

Has anyone considered this, researched this or know anyone who has?  My dh is getting more testing through a urologist do we still are not sure IVF is definite.  We may be able to to IUI but I wanted to see if anyone had experience with this.  TIA!

Re: IVF in another country?

  • I live in Israel so I am doing IVF there. I would say the main thing that is tricky about doing IVF outside of the U.S. is that most countries don't have a centralized database of IVF stats like SART so it can be difficult to get a true picture of any given clinic's success rates. If you want any info on IVF in Israel I am happy to help.
    IUIs #1-3 (1x unmedicated, 2x Clomid) = 2 BFNs, 1 m/c at 7w3d
    IUIs #4-6 (injects) = 3 BFNs
    IVF #1 = BFN
    FET #1 = BFN
    FET #2 = BFN
IVF #2 = BFP, b/g twins lost at 20w due to partial abruption/PPROM
    IVF #3 = c/p 5w2d
Long-shot Clomid/Prednisone cycle before next IVF = BFP, our beautiful, healthy girl born 6/26/13!

  • I am doing IVF in Europe right now, but I live here full time. If you pursue this more PM me and I can tell you about how it works where I live.

Sometimes it's less expensive, but you have to stay in the country for a while and won't have insurance, so that adds to the cost.

It won't really be like a vacation, because when you're dealing with medical tourism and the stress of likely not speaking the local language. The RE should know English if they are marketing towards foreigners, but outside of that there are no promises.

It can be difficult when you want tylenol or some other drug that they don't have or may not legally be able to bring into the country and treatments may be different. Just do your research.

There are many clinics catering to women who travel for treatment. Some of the more popular ones are in Cyprus, the Czech Republic, and Norway

(Live in Europe) TTC since 1/2010
  • There are also a few on SAIF who have done this.  If you post there, you will get a response.  The few I know of have a blog of their experiences...I just can't remember their names.  GL!
    TTC since 3/07. IVF#1 = canceled. IVF#2 = 0% fertilization. IVF#3 = BFN. IVF#4 = c/p.
    Moving forward with Adoption 2017!
  • From what I gather off various message boards is that many American women go to Czech republic for DE IVF because it is much cheaper than domestic, and since it is DE IVF, you don't need to be in the country as long as with OE IVF.

I seriously was thinking it might be great to do OE IVF in Mexico, but I think once you start adding up all the time you need to be there (at least 2 weeks) and paying for airfare, accommodations, etc, the lower price starts to not be so low.

And as PPs have said, the stats are not available for the most part.
