Trying to Get Pregnant

If you knew then what you know now....

So this is mostly for the ladies who have been trying for more than just a couple of cycles. If you knew then what you know now would you have started to TTC earlier? I mean obviously we can't go back in time but I'm just curious. Personally I wish I would have gone off BC earlier and gave my body a little time to at least adjust. My dumb ass doctor told me that I didn't need to go of it until we wanted to start trying!

  • YES!  I would have gone off BC as soon as we got married.  After our two losses, this process is taking longer and longer....

  • No. I always thought I would have children in my mid/late 20's, but it wasn't in the cards for us. We wanted to be financially stable, have some savings built up, have grad school done, etc. I don't regret waiting. Now I feel more confident than ever that this is the right time for us.

My thoughts exactly, Kristie.  My hubby and knew we wanted a family right away so I didn't go off BC (which I had been on for over 10 years) until the month after our wedding.  Two months without a cycle and now, 11 months later, its evening out and becoming more "regular."  It wasn't my doctor that stopped us though.  No one to blame but ourselves because we didn't want to risk being pregnant at the wedding.    :/

  • We started TTC when it was right for us... Having a bit of PG scare one month is what actually made us realize that we were both finally ready, so I ditched the BCP then... Don't think we would have done it any other way.
  • I've been off BCP for three years, but I would have started temping sooner.  Although, at this point, I don't think any of that would make a difference.

Your "dumb ass" doctor is completely right. There is zero need to go off in advance. Many women have zero issues going back to being regular after the pill.

And no. We started when the time was right for use. We sure as hell wouldn't have started 3 years sooner than we did to speed things along.

Agreed. There's no reason to toss the pills ahead of time. While it may take time to regulate, that doesn't mean there's a problem. Everyone's body has to find it's rhythm again. Why do you think you have to take them every 24 hours? Because they don't last in your system, they don't have effects beyond 24 hours. There are no "chemicals" that have to leave your body for months later.

There's no way we would have started earlier because we started when we were ready and not a moment before. Not that things would have been different, but we weren't willing to take the chance of unprevented pregnancy before we were in the right place.

Now that I think about it, I hate this question. You can't ever go back in time and know what you knew. We never could have known my husband or I had issues. We couldn't have started testing early. It's totally irrelevant. What's done is done.

  • We have only been trying  4 cycles so who knows whats in store for us! I originally wanted to start right after we were married in may 09, but I'm glad we waited until the time was right for us. The first 2yrs of marriage were bumpy with losing jobs, unwanted family/free loading house guest and disrespectful family. we went through a lot! we never had a chance to be newlyweds in our own home. but now that we have had time to be alone and enjoy each other and figured out our      financial situation we are defiantly Ready!!

  • No. I started when I was ready. If I started any earlier than the time we decided it would not have been good for our relationship.

  • I probably wouldn't have waited the extra year.  DH and I decided to wait till after we went to Hawaii before throwing out the BCP.  I didn't want to go to Hawaii pregnant.  If I knew I had PCOS and the likelihood of my ovulating was slim I would have thrown out the BCP a long, long time ago.

  • I was ready long before DH was. Obviously, it was important for us both to be on board. So, after being together for 7 years, we finally got married & both agreed that it was the right time.

We are definitely more responsible & ready now than we ever have been.

  • We would have started trying right after we got married in November 2010. We waited until June to start trying and we haven't gotten lucky yet! We're moving on to our 4th cycle of trying and I'm hoping this will be our lucky month!

  • Considering that what I know now is that I'm quickly running out of eggs, yeah, I would have started sooner.  I think DH would have been supportive if we had known (even though he's the one who wanted to wait).  Now, all I can do is hope the RE will be able to help us bring home at least one baby, even if we can't have the three we wanted.

  • I know I haven't been trying as long as many ladies on this board, but after 6.5 cycles I am still very happy with when we started.  We really enjoyed our 5 years of guaranteed alone time, and I wouldn't have wanted to miss that time for us to grow together and do what we want when we want!

  • We started TTC when it was right for us.  Sometimes I think it would be nice if circumstances would have been different and we could have started earlier (like when I see girls younger than me with kiddos).  I also wish I had naturally curly red hair but it ain't gonna happen.

    imageimageimage
  • I think I maybe wouldn't have started trying earlier, but would have been more serious about it when we did. Instead of taking the "oh, we'll just see how it goes" route, I wish I would have been temping and charting the whole time. Not too sure why I felt that I would get KTFU just by thinking I wanted to...
