Comfortable pants for girls

Any suggestions on where to get comfy pants for a 4.5 year old?  She is wearing size 5T cotton pants from Walmart and they are getting pretty tight, so I'm thinking I may have to go up in size (especially places like Target, since their brands run small).

It is really tough finding pants that are stretchy or cotton, and she doesn't like stuff like jeans.  She also wore some corduroy pants last year but the waistband was stretchy all around (but not bunchy - it was a very nice pair from Lands End).

I'm worried that if I have to buy bigger sizes up from 5T, it will be really tough to find those comfy pants (and I'm not talking about sweats).  Thanks!

Re: Comfortable pants for girls

  • My little girl is the same way (hates jeans) and she is 6 and wears a 6/6x.  We wear a lot of dresses with leggings.  I generally buy them from Carter's (Kohl's) and Hanna Andersson.   Carter's largest size is a 6x so after this, not sure what we will do...Carter's also has elastic waist pants up to 6/6x.  DD has a pink pair that she doesn't mind wearing.

Gymboress sometimes has them and they run big.  You might try the 5T or 4/5 there.

The style is much older but in the future you can try Justice and TCP.   We have started shopping more at both of those.

  • Hanna Andersson has yoga pants, microfleece pants for winter, and cords that you might want to check out. Plus lots of leggings.

I got an L.L.Bean kids catalog and they actually have quite a few non-jean options that go into children's sizes.

  • Check Costco.  Last year they had a 2 pack of Hanna Andersson leggings that fit fantastic for DD, who is skinny and tall (and also doesn't like jeans).  The leggings were nice and thick too and wore very well for the winter season.  Also check out Carter's leggings and pants.  I've found some of them a little big in the waist for DD so depends on your DD's size.  Children's Place has some decent pants but they do tend to run on the small side so likely you will be okay with 5T or size 4 or 5 there.

  • Old Navy has cute yoga style pants in girls sizes.  Also Gymboree has lots of leggings and several colors of yoga style too.
  • Old Navy has cute cotton leggings and sometimes some comfy pants. I also like Carters and Target (Chirco).

  • Old Navy has some elastic waist pants. I love them for my DD.

These go up to 5T. I've found Old Navy pants to run on the larger side.

Jeans  (I know you said no jeans, but the material isn't scratchy)

    Poplin pants

    Tie-front twill pants

    I'd also do leggings.

  • I just went shopping for comfy pants for dd this past sunday. I got some from Carters and Osh Kosh. If you get one of their 20% off coupons, most of the pants are $6.40 plus tax. They seem like decent quality and dd says they are comfortable.

  • Kohl's has great sales, and often great coupons.  They carry Carter's and Osh Kosh, but I really like their Jumping Beans brand.  The clothes really hold up and are very reasonably priced.  Good variety, too- leggings, bootcut leggings, sweatpants, khaki pants, jeans, corduroys, etc.

  • My friend's DD (who is 5)only wears yoga pants from GAP.  We just got some for my DD on sale and they were really cheap.  REALLY comfy!

  • DD wears leggings (purchased in size XS or 5 at Walmart, Target or Carters) and yoga pants from The Children's Place or Old Navy.  She also has some fleece pants that she loves in the winter from Old Navy.  That's pretty much all she'll wear other than tights under dresses.
