"how to talk so your kids will listen" book

anyone have it? worth it? other book suggestions?

I'd love to say that I'm relying on common sense instead of a book, but we're in a rut with DS and we need a little shake up.

Re: "how to talk so your kids will listen" book

  • we borrowed it on tape from the library.  I think it's useful, especially for school age kids.  We picked up a few good tips.
    DS1 age 7, DD age 5 and DS2 born 4/3/12
  • Read it from library. I really liked the approach, some of it was not appropriate for my kid at the time (he was 4) and some suggestions were better for school age. In general though I got some good tricks, much needed perspective and a theory that matched my values.

  • I really liked it.  It made a lot of sense.  A few chapters were not news to me, but a good 2/3 of it was so helpful because I was visualizing and reminding myself.  I photocopied the summary pages (the summary is in a box at the end of the chapter.  There are like 5 of them) and keep them on the refrigerator and I try to look at them once a day to internalize things, because in the heat of the moment, I sometimes forget good practice.
  • I really like it.
